ReelFiles Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I can't even remember ever getting a printer cable with any of the printers I've ever bought. I just bought a $169 Canon photo printer and yet again, no cable. I had to run to RadioSmack and buy a $22 36" gold plated A-B USB cable, since that's all they had in stock. Canon could have included an ElCheapo $1-$2 dollar cable. Isn't it a bit ridiculous considering that a printer can't even get installed without the usb cable? Hmmm that is strange as I never bought a printer that didn't have a cable inside the box. All HP printers though. Tmod
UncleDavid218 Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I wholeheartedly agree. I'd much rather pay the $5 more (or whatever) and not have to go through the extra hassle. I'm sure the reason is cost, but most consumers don't have a USB cable laying around, so we're forced to buy them at the store for ridiculous prices anyway. @Tmod I've only bought HP printers (primarily the Photosmart series) and never got one For me, this is a question similar to "If it's Alcoholics Anonymous, why do you have to get up and say your name?" and "If you're standing on the North Pole, which way is north?" ollietwinam Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 I got one with my Canon, and so did my Mum
ReelFiles Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 The last two printers I bought were Epson and Lexmark, neither one had the A-B USB cable included. How much could it possibly cost a large corporation to buy OEM cables in bulk? $.50-$1.00?

Guest Tmod Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Ok I am going on a Recon mission, I am heading to Sam's club (warehouse store) in a bit and they do carry printers from several different maunfacturers and I will report back here. My last printer was a network printer and it came with the ethernet cable. Tmod
ReelFiles Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 Cool, thanks. I would definitely be pissed if I bought a network printer without a cable, since it's supposed to be for a corporate/office type environment.
dab Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 That A-B usb cable is only worth $1- $5. Check dollar stores and bargain bins, wally mart, etc.. $22 is way too much. I got a 10ft for $2 at a "Dollarama" when I purchased my canon printer (sans usb cable, man what a gyp).
radodrill Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 My Epson Stylus Photo R300M didn't come w/ a USB cable either so I bought one for ~$8 @ Big Lots. Since USB is so popuar now large corporations probably assume that most people have extra cables lying around; Printer manufacturers are probably thinking that people are replacing old USB printers and can use the cable they had on the old one. If they can save $0.50 per cable x 10 mollion printers sold; that's $5million more in their pockets.
