instability problem

Hello guys

 

I am still having problems with my setup. In fairness, since I have replaced PSU it is better, but i am still some way from the system being stable, let alone overclocked.

 

I have tried booting with 1 stick of ram and it throws errors - regardless which stick i try.

If i run memtest (800mb, 2 instances), 1st instance runs ok, 2nd instance gives me a message: " Memory error detected! Pair xx_randomnumber_xx does not store values correctly."

 

My latest setting I iwll post in a second, in the meantime here is what sensor view tells me with regards to temp/voltage (idle):

CPU 31C

sys 31C

Aux 39C

HD0 37C

HD1 39C

HD2 35C

 

Voltages:

the mem timings your gonna have to play around with them,,,,use the a64info or tweaker to get the timings settings on auto then go from there, looser sometimes helps with stability no end.......

Im doing the same as you right now, new cpu = new mem controler so i gotta learn all over again, lol what fun hehehehehe, it takes time and lots of testing,,,,,i loosen all my timings right up and then i start upping the fsb, i check with dual prime for stability, if its gonna fail it does it quite quick...

how would you loosen it? up the timings, reduce freq, that kinda thing?

Our systems are similar.

I would first bump up the Dram Data drive strength to L2 (helps with stability...the L1 setting you have is a weak Dram drive strength..not so good)

 

I use less CPU voltage..mine is 1.38

You can probably bump up the Dram voltage to 2.75.

My system runs happily and prime stable at a mild overclock of 2.5 Ghz

As Loggan26 said.. make the changes one at a time with stress testing afterwards as stability proof ...watch your temps w/ MBM5 or similar

I'm getting really tired of this, cant make it stable at all - if i was to get new RAM - any recommendations?

make mobo give adecuate volts to mem..dunno at al what they might be on yours, but, 2.75-2.8v are very common.

 

if u cant get it errors free, use divider and get into windows(after memtest!!!), make a readout of your PSU...quality mobos + psus give no fluctuations(1-2 dips/min maybe)

dropped chipset voltage to 1.56, and upped the dram voltage to 2.80

 

i cant run memtest in bios as the memory errors all the time. I do mean all the time, so i cant even get into config and need to reboot to get the computer under my control again.

 

I suppose question that I have is as follows - do I keep on buying components to fix this (already upgraded PSU)?

My concern is that I am working with mobo for which RAM that works is hard to get hold of, and problems are many it seems. Even if I was to get hold of good working memory, I am left with 2Gb of Geil that I cant do much without.

Are there mobos that are less fussy? I am not that worried about overclocking to be honest (dont flame! :)), I would be very happy at this moment in time with machine that doesnt error.

Hi, posted in your old thread - so thought I'd add a little more info here too.

 

Well, your first issue is getting Memtest to run from the BIOS. If you aren't MemTest86+ stable - you shouldn't even be attempting to boot into the OS. All you will do is totally bollox your OS and need a reinstall...

 

Try adding a little more juice to the CPU - maybe just adjusting the CPU Special VID to 104% or somewhere there... You can also mess around a little with both the drive and data drive strengths.

 

If none of this helps then it looks to me like those sticks have a problem. Thing is - at stock you shouldn't really need to be messing about with any of that stuff... RMA may be your only option to get stable. Assuming that they are really the GE2GB3200BDC sticks - then they should be running 3-4-4-8 pretty much as stated @ stock. If you are getting MemTest errors at that speed - then it has to be either your PSU (which you've changed), the Mobo itself, your CPU or your sticks. Can you try with a different stick - borrowed/stolen from a friend maybe? ...If that one works - I'd definately RMA the sticks if they aren't stable.

I will try as you suggest with settings, and also will take the computer to the nearby shop where i can try out both my ram in their rig and their ram in mine.

 

i have set following:

DQS Skew control - increase (from auto)

dram drive strength - lvl10 (from 8)

ldt/fsb freq ratio - 1 (from auto)

cpu vid spec control - 104.8% (from auto)

ldt voltage - 1.4 (from 1.3)

 

about to save and run memtest from bios. my hopes are non-existent :(
