saint-francis Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 So I got the 975 MB and lo and behold there was no post, no video, no anything except the led and the fans. I tried resetting the CMOS. I tried all kinds of different combinations of the ram, and finally DFI tech support told me that it must be a bad MB so I sent it back to newegg for an exchange. My question is: should I also return the ram and get this corsair set? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145038 It seems to have pretty good reviews, but the price is high and it isn't on the list of DFI recommended ram. I might be able to coax the OCZ ram into working, but I have things to do other than fight with my computer. I want it to make my life easier, not more complicated. If the only answer for the OCZ ram is to send it back to them for reprogramming I am definitely going to return it for the corsair. OCZ ram seems to be troublesome at best on these boards. Any thoughts?

Do a Google search for successful settings for the combination of your RAM and MOBO and try out what you find. That should be your first step. OCZ RAM is great stuff !! RoadW3 Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Did your motherboard at least beep at you? I had the exact same problem but I get a beep. Eric
saint-francis Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 Nothing. Not any kind of beep at all. The new mobo should be here soon and we will see.
lackobreath Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 That's the same RAM I tried to use, couldn't get it working at all. With any combination of sticks and slots, no POST, no beep, just fans and LED light. I had to go get a different kit of RAM and with the new RAM it booted right up on the first try. I think there is a compatibility issue with that RAM and motherboard. I'd contact OCZ cause that's what I'm going to do. saint-francis Posted December 11, 2006 Posted December 11, 2006 Well I have scoured google for several days now and all I have come up with is that this board doesn't work with some ram and it usually turns out to be made by OCZ. So my new mobo is on it's way to me and if it doesn't work right off the bat with the OCZ ram I'm going to return it for the ram I mentioned earlier in the thread and just eat the $100 additional cost. This has been a nightmare. Even if I can get this ram to work (which is dubious) I don't want to mess with second rate ram. Ram is one thing that can bring a system to it's KNEES. I don't want to run into any problems down the road either. DFI should take this ram off of their recommended list. It obviously doesn't work. If one browses through this forum there is any number of people complaining about the same issues.

I was one that have had the same issue and If you talk to OCZ they will either replace your ram or reporgram it (depend on what is needed) and it should work. Call OCZ and see what they can do for you or hit bleedingedges forum section that OCZ has.
Rroff Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 As Malatory said - OCZ are very good about replacing you RAM with sticks that work or reprogramming your current RAM to work with this motherboard... sadly (I'm a big OCZ fan and have their RAM in all my other PCs) just after I emailed OCZ about it the place where I got the RAM from offered to overnight me an alternative product (and return the OCZ stuff) so I went with that as I'm too impatient to wait an indeffinate time for an RMA/fix from OCZ, even tho its prolly only a week tops. saint-francis Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Well I went ahead and returned it to the egg for the top of the line corsair ddr2 800 they had. I got it all put together today. And you know what? It works! I'm using it right now! Now on to the overclocking

My machine has been through 5 Sets of Ram now (1 OCZ that had the same problem and One Kingston set) .. Rest have worked fine. I got the test ram in there now and been playing with the settings.
