glp103 Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Not sure if this goes here? I have $700.00 for a new build. I need: MOBO CPU Memory Graphics card Hard Drive- (100GB is fine for me) I will stick with my PSU for now.
PhoetuS Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Motherboard CPU RAM GPU Hard Drive Grand Total: $702.95 before shipping If you aren't really into gaming, you can always get a cheaper GPU... You may want to consider getting a different PSU, One from the recommended list, like This One.
radodrill Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Conroe currently has the perfrmance crown when it comes to CPUs here is a possible parts list: Open Boxed DFI Infinity 975X/G for $122.99 Core 2 Duo E6400 $217.00 OCZ 2x1Gb DDR2-800 $245.99-$30.00 MIR XFX GeGorce 7600GT $146.99-$20.00 MIR WD 120Gb SATA2 HDD $56.99 The GFX card is not the best available but you could always upgrade it later on; or if you're willing to spend about $55.00 more you could get an XFX GeForce 7900GS for $199.99-$20.00 MIR
aelfwyne Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Both these look good. If you're not going to want to upgrade the PSU, you may want to be careful if you move to an NF4 board - they're picky on PSU choice. Also, while Core 2 Duo may be better in some ways, it is hard to beat the price of an Opteron 165 at NewEgg.
PhoetuS Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 Looking at Radodrill's build, I would recommend getting the retail Infinity 975X/G for $165 and make up the extra $40 by downgrading the E6400 to an E6300 ($181)
Clawhammer Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 both builds are great suggestions! i to am anxious to upgrade, but i can wait till DFI releases its lanparty board that will support the conroe.

I personally would get the E6400 since it is only $36 more than the E6300 and the E6600 is a $90 premium over the E6400 so comparatively you get a decent upgrade for a small price premium

WintersFury Posted December 8, 2006 Posted December 8, 2006 For low cost with great performance, it's hard to beat an AMD. A 165 is only $150ish and is still smokin fast when OCed. How much cpu power do you really need? Even though I went C2D I just got an e6300. It should hit around 3.0GHz with the Infinity and that's still more than fast enough to do anything anyone really needs their computer to do
