sk88erguy Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 hey guys, i tested for 6 1/2 hours with prime95 blend test, occt passes, so does memtest86, but super-pi says Out Of Round. Im wondering if super-pi is just retarded or if the overclock is infact unstable? thanks guys.
Kithylin Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Not sure, but i had the opposite problem, with my A-64 (opteron). Super-pi would pass fine after many runs calculating 32m, yet Prime95 would crash. running +0.02v and so far prime95's gotten alot further than it ever has before. Don't know if this is the issue with your system or not, but thought i'd share.

Try redownloading SuperPi, might just have a bug in the program.
Redbeaver Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 i second that. altho it doesnt close the possibility that at some unique specific memory address, Superpi found a flaw in the oc where Prime didnt.... definitely possible. sk88erguy Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 k ill redownload and try again, i thought prime95 was much tougher as well, but like you say it is possible i guess that it just throws something at the ram that prime doesn't, thanks for the input guys. aelfwyne Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I kept having that error with SuperPI, and then I had a "duh" moment. I was running two copies of SuperPI, to test both cores... but each copy had to be run in a seperate folder, since it stores data in temp files. If you're just running one copy, make sure none of the files are set read-only.
Redbeaver Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 why in satan's name would u wanna run 2 copies of SuperPi???????????????? 2 copies of Prime, yes, but not superpi........... i believe..... hey i could be wrong, but thats a first time for me lol
Kingfisher Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 The OP has a single core, no need for two instances of ANY benchmark on his PC. When you ran Prime 95 "blend" test, what were your settings? If you did not test your RAM much it is very possible to get the results you got and still have unstable RAM, which I believe you have. jfk Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 why in satan's name would u wanna run 2 copies of SuperPi???????????????? 2 copies of Prime, yes, but not superpi........... i believe..... hey i could be wrong, but thats a first time for me lol I always run two instances of SuperPi when I change settings as part of my stability testing. Obviously I wouldn't do that on a single core, but on a dual core? Absolutely.
Redbeaver Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 that is new to me. 2 instances for SuperPi. how the heck do u affiliate each instances to difference cores? when i run superpi, both cores used.
jfk Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I have two instance of SuperPi in two different folders under different names. I open both, go to task manager, and set the affinity for the first instance to Core 0, the affinity of the second instance to Core1. Works great, 100% core useage. Kingfisher Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 running two instances of super-PI is not necessary.
