Guest DaddyD302 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I'm just curious since I am just an average joe, who knows a little about this and that when it comes to computers. Now you all may wonder wtf am I talking about. Well I am talking about this guy thisisashan, who I believe is trying to scam eVGA for a new card. I believe he lost or threw away his HS, and his card went to hell, and now he's desperately trying to force eVGA to rma his card, even thou he has no HS on it. What I'm asking is, he claims to know VERY, VERY, little about computer hardware, but claims to be a programmer, and overclocker. Programmer of what he didn't say or I didn't see it. I'm just curious, is it possible for any computer programmer or overclockers to not know a single thing about computer hardware? I'm not a programmer, and a newbie overclocker, as you can see so I don't know much. I am hoping someone can shine a light on that subject. I'm sorry, but I just find it VERY hard to believe someone knows so much about unlocking cards, and overclocking it, to claiming he didn't know video cards are supposed to have HS on them. If I am wrong, please tell me. I rather be wrong about something and learn from it then just guessing. Feel free to flame me if you guys think I'm just being stupid. This is his post on guru3d after he failed to get support on the eVGA board. http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=205978 This is his original post on the eVGA board. He changed the subject from, Boycotting eVGA, to please don't waste my $200. http://www.evga.com/community/messageboard...?TOPIC_ID=22129

Guest Neezer Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 I am with UD. I feel like i am enough of a noob that if I know something, and someone else doesn't, they have absolutely no business opening their computer. plus he talks about ocing his gpu, and all sorts of other things. that guy is a lier. i wonder where he is going to law school? radodrill Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 This guy must be kidding. check out the picture of his card: It is obvious that there is TIM on the GPU core; yet he claims the card didn't come with a HSF HMMMMM. While some computer programming has nothing to do with hardware; most everyone in the position to do programming would have at least a basic understanding of computers and how they work. He admits to havig a 6800GT so he would know that all GFX cards produced in the past few years have had an HSF. This guy has definately fallen off his rocker and should be banned from all web forums. I like the fact that anivdas offered to buy him an 8800GTS if he proves that he paidfull price for it; which has yet to happen. Smoken Joe Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 He is just a troll trying to smear the name of a good manufacturerwho has a very liberal view on returns- one with a good enough return policy that many people recomend that brand just for that policy. It is pretty obvious as stated there was TIM on the card so either the guy is lying or..... who knows. Him calling names and putting people down is a pretty good indication somthing is off on top of the other contradictions. Note that thread is closed on the other forum no need to go further here. Redbeaver Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 overclocker wit little knowledge in hardware? wow lol thats a joke, right? is it? or am i being transported to a different dimension last night? programmer with very little knowledge in hardware? goddamn thats one n00b programmer lol yes i understand its possible, but if u show no interest in computer hardware, how did u become interested in learning how to code? just becoz mommy n daddy tells u so? My roommate knows little about computer hardware, but hes the best c++ programmer I know of. Granted he knows more than this guy though.. And as a side note, why does interest in computers have to start at the hardware end? I was interested in hardware, then dived into programming. And my roommate was the opposite, he loved programming and is now just starting to get into the hardware aspect.

radodrill Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Theoretically it would be possible; but the chances of finding a programmer who has no clue about hardware is extremely remote. IMO any programmer would have at least some very basic computer knowledge; at least know what the different parts are.

In the 1950's, you had to have an intimate knowledge of the hardware you were working on to write effective programs. When IBM released the Fortran compiler, that changed. As they evolve, programming languages let programmers solve problems more and more in the langauge of the problem domain, rather than the language of the solution.
