FX-60 + 8800GTX - For those that want to see it!

Recommended Posts

Alright. No arguing, no fussing, no "this processor is better than that one" this thread is for one thing and one thing only.

People want to see how an FX-60 handles an 8800GTX. And I'm delivering. Please don't litter this thread with arguements or gripes.

First I ran a set at stock butt stock with my system running at the following settings:

Then I decided to run some PC4800 tests. These are incomplete as I am having issues with those sticks right now (think I may end up having to RMA all four of them):

ADDED BY EDIT:

Oh yeah, and if you get one of these sexy gals, I highly recommend rippin' the (ridiculously cheap) EVGA sticker off of the plastic, then unscrewing it and taking it off, and placing a better cooling system on it, if you're a cooling freak like me, 55C Idle is unacceptable to me ;) with a Vantec Spectrum under the sucker she's idling at 45-46C now, and that's OCed or stock.

Also, did a brief glimpse in Oblivion. Noticed two things, first, 8X AA is now available in the Oblivion menu, 2nd, it runs much better than either of my two previous setups for it did (1 7900 or 2), with the same settings I used to play at AT A HIGHER RESOLUTION ;). I'm going to be throughly enjoying every game I have maxed out for the next long while (FarCry never looked this sweet or ran this smooth at 1920x1200 before either).

Nice score man. I could only get 118867, on AM3. Highest 3dmark06 for me was this at 3.1Ghz, since my system isn't stable, it doesn't count lol. I'm still waiting on my 2nd GTX, so I won't be benching till then, besides benching takes too long, and I'm too impatient, lol.

3DMark Score 10308 3DMarks

SM 2.0 Score 4742 Marks

SM 3.0 Score 4838 Marks

CPU Score 2306 Marks

The sickest part is it boosted my Oblivion performance (from what I can tell) by 20FPS.

FarCry I can play at 1920x1200 with all the eye candy on Cold rendering, and it never dips below 80FPS. I'm thinkin' about turning on 8X AA to give it a real test.

I just wish NVidia would put out drivers that resolve the FEAR Issue of 8x AA and 8xQ causing burn-like looks on the screen.

Oh and I retested 06 with my PC4000 with the card OCed to 600/1900, got 10K ;)

I just noticed something. My SM 3.0 Score is almost as high as yours on my new test with PC4000. With your CPU score at 2306, it's probably the difference between 10.2 and 10.3K.

And with my PC4800, I betcha on SM 3.0, loose by a few points on SM 2.0, and looks by 80 or so on CPU score. I think maybe your ram isn't totally stable at the settings you did that at and that's why yer scores are weirdish for 3.1GHz. I figure if 3.1GHz were stable, it'd clear 10.5K on 06... just a guess though, since I'm doin' 10.1GHz @ 2.94GHz with PC4000.

I noticed that as well, also something similar in BF2. It happened on both the GTS and GTX, so I assume driver issue as well.

With FX60 running 300x10 1:1 in an Expert with card at stock clocks. Note the 97.02 drivers Texture Quality was bumped up to "High Quality" from driver default of "Quality".

3DM01 = 43,639

3DM03 = 34,105

3DM05 = 16,300

3DM06 = 10,294

AM3 = 131,926

Just noticed, how come 01 wasn't run on that setup Viper?

Another new personal best/highest score ever for me:

2.94GHz, DDR490, GPU @ 600/1900

41K :-D I remember just a few weeks ago I was fighting to clip 39K. Neato speedo. Alsk hit 15.5K in 05 with my PC4000 in, which almost matches my former high with 2 7900GTXs/PC4800 @ 15610.

I'm hoping I can do a CMOS reset sometime soon and get that PC4800 happy with this motherboard again and do a complete field testing on it cuz the intial results (in my sig, the ones that aren't ?????) were sweet.

And a new personal 3DMark03 single card high score as well:
