Polizei Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 I was wondering if someone could walk me through the steps of setting up RAID 0 on the Infinity 975X/G? Im planning on buying 2, 80GB hard drives for a RAID 0 setup with a 250GB storage drive. Im either getting 2 Western Digitals seen here or 2 Seagates seen here. Pretty much the only difference between them is the Seagates have a 5 year warranty while the WD's have a 3 year warranty, and the Seagates have NCQ. Is NCQ and the 5 year warranty worth the extra $12 bucks? Im in college and I really shouldnt be spending this money, but hobbies do weird things to me. I can afford it, Im not the standard college student whos in hundreds of dollars in debt with his credit card. I can manage my money... dad's an accountant and I half paid attention when we had "money talks" before I left for college. Anyways. I read through the manual but it didnt really help much, its vague I think. :confused: So I appeal to you 975X/G users who have RAID 0 set up, can you walk me through the steps? rayooo Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I'm in the process now...so hopefully it's still clear enough in my mind..... 1. Install the two new drives. 2. Power up, into BIOS, the new drives will show up as two independant drives. Go into the bios section: Integrated Peripherals, and then into: OnBoard IDE/SATA Device. 3. Change the SATA Mode setting to: RAID 4. Save BIOS and re-boot. 5. You'll now see the RAID BIOS Screen appear after initial POST. 6. When the RAID Screen appears, press CNTRL-I. 7. You'll now be in the RAID BIOS, follow the menu items there to create a RAID Volume using the two new drives. 8. Exit the RAID screen, if you go back into standard BIOS, and go into "Hard Disk Boot Priority" you'll see the new RAID in the list called: SCSI 0. If you already have a running computer, you'll have to install the windows RAID Driver from within Windows. If you are installing windows next, and putting Windows on the new RAID, you'll have to do the old "Press F6 to Install 3rd Party Device Drivers" during the initial windows install. PS from what I've read, NCQ is of little or no benefit on a typical desktop computer. If you feel better with 5 years, spring for the extra $12. I only have 1 optical drive, which the Windows CD will be in. Now, when Im installing this new RAID, should I disconnect my current drive? I have a bunch of stuff on there that I cant back up... no DVD's and not enough CD's. When Im done, Im thinking about moving all of these files onto the new RAID and formatting my 250GB drive and then moving the files back... I haven't been keeping up with this board as I sold mine due to the problem listed below, but maybe there has been a BIOS update to fix that DFI never emailed me about. Problem: MB wont boot with 2 drives in RAID0 and 3rd SATA HD installed. The problem seems to be that all the SATA controllers are set to RAID not just the ones you want. Angry_Games Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 I've had no problem with 2 drives in RAID-0 and a third data drive on the SATA controllers at all in my testing Canon emailed me today and gave me a tracking # for my camera return so it should be here by Friday or Monday and I can make some 975X/G RAID (as I'll also be doing complete watercooling with this new Corsair Nautilus kit) Share this post Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Well, now I might go with the Hitachis because they have NCQ for the same price as WD's without it, so... We'll see... Im going to get these probably the Friday after Thanksgiving and then yank some data cables from my buddy (what the hell... 975X/G only comes with 2? :confused: ) and save myself $10. Unfortunately, after I get these drives, there wont be anything I can do to my computer to make it faster without spending a couple hundred bucks. Bugger, I had the board packed away for a few months and sold it 2 weeks ago, I should have checked if it had been fixed first.
