RX9-3200+ Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 hi im having issues after installing my 7900gs and beginning to play high demand games like bf2 and oblivion. sometimes bf2 would just do a random 5 second freeze, and just now a random stop error occurred from a device driver and it restarted the comp. MY PSU is a POS and if this is definitely the cause i want to get rid of it before it starts screwing my machine over. My cpu has been prime stable checked twice @ 2400 mhz and is on stock volts, and never has been above 40*. VGA card is also downclocked and runs fine. Is it the crappy psu that could be erroring the system? plz help i dont want my baby to get corrupted and damaged b/c of a pos psu. the files for the error report are here if anyone wishes to use them in finding out the cause: C:DOCUME~1UserLOCALS~1TempWERc55f.dir00Mini110606-01.dmp C:DOCUME~1UserLOCALS~1TempWERc55f.dir00sysdata.xml
Sorrento Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Power supply might be the problem. Try with out overclocking the cpu, if that helps then its quite certain a new psu will solve the problem.
RX9-3200+ Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 well i updated the nvidia drivers from 91.47 to 93.71 and ran prime95 combined with a program called "video card stability test" that uses an earth (supposedly loading the gpu, it got the temps up to 56*), and it ran fine for 10 hours until i ended it myself, no errors and wasnt stopped by errors. So i dont understand, even tho my psu is is pos, it still gives 500w, and the rails according to everest are within specs, and the gpu only draws max 190w. could uneven voltage from the psu to the ram give serious errors? also, today i played bf2 for an hour just now, no errors or freezing. The question im asking now is, is it possible for a cpu, even mine just passed 10hr prime and will be going for 36 hours, to start giving issues once a new graphics card thats high end is installed, even tho the clocks and settings didnt change from the previous setup?? plz someone explain this
tasr Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 Test your memory by enabling memtest in the BIOS and test #5 and #8 for 15-20 passes each. Then do all tests for 20 passes. Test the memory in the orange slots. This is to rule out your memory being an issue. MY PSU is a POS and if this is definitely the cause i want to get rid of it before it starts screwing my machine over.I think you know the answer.
