Azio Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I'm typing this on my macbook because right now my desktop is stuck at 31% programming the main block, updating the bios from 6/23/2005 to 04/06/2006 in Winflash. I haven't touched it except for moving the mouse and pressing a few keys, which did nothing. What should I do?

Azio Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 dont use winflash for starters. Your probably screwed. sorry Tell that to Fortron Source, who had the bright idea of only including one floppy drive power connector on my power supply. (it's used up by the motherboard)
ReelFiles Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I would PM Tmod if I were you.
Azio Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Jesus Christ. Okay. I turned the computer off, unplugged all my USB gear, plugged in aPS2 keyboard, and turned it on. I get three diagnostic LEDs and the following screen: Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0Copyright © 2000, Award Software, Inc. BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting floppy drive A media... Drive A error. System halt Is there any chance of recovering from this? I sent a PM to Tmod, but until I get answers on this I'll be rocking back and forth in the corner with a bottle of Jack Daniels. drmalenko Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Yep, PM Tmod. Your choices here are to: Either hotflash the BIOS, which is strongly discouraged due to the fact you can mess up both systems. Or, Give Tmod 15 bucks to send you another BIOS chip, pop it in and keep trucking. The nice part is that Tmod will put whatever BIOS you want on the chip. Azio Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Yep, PM Tmod. This is the PM I sent him: About 3 months ago I upgraded from an Athlon 64 3200+ to an Athlon X2 4200+. At the time I was running on a 400W power supply, which was obviously not enough, but it took me several tries running a few games (each time causing the system to seize up) to realize it. I think this is where my problems started. The next day I upgraded to the 500W version of the existing power supply, and all was well. At least, for a while. I soon noticed that after about 45-90 minutes my games were crashing, freezing, coughing up blue screens (usually IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER), or triggering ATI VPU Recover. Basically the videocard was getting caught in endless loops and other issues. I also found that using the built-in TV tuner of my All-In-Wonder X800XL would often generate a blue screen. I ignored it all though, because at the time it seemed sporadic enough to ignore. Eventually my issues in games started to happen more and more frequently, until eventually it started triggering VPU Recovers within 10-20 seconds of starting most games. So I started doing diagnostics. All temperatures seemed to be in range. I ran Prime95 and Memtest86 successfully, I moved the videocard into a different slot, I tried installing different RAM, and I even did a clean install of Windows on one of my hard drives, but I was still experiencing this problem. So I replaced my All-In-Wonder with a BFG 7600GT yesterday. It seemed to solve the problem only partially: some games would run, but with frequent stuttering and artifacts. Other games would fail to initialize. Still others would run for a while, and then trigger the nVidia equivalent to the ATI VPU Recover error message. At my wit's end, I decided to try updating my BIOS. I used Winflash because my power supply only has one floppy drive power connector, and it was being used up by the motherboard. I followed the instructions carefully, and the boot block updated fine, but the main block froze at 31%. I had never used Winflash before this. I turned off the computer, unplugged all my hardware, and plugged in a PS/2 keyboard but all I get is this error message: Award BootBlock BIOS v1.0Copyright © 2000, Award Software, Inc. BIOS ROM checksum error Detecting floppy drive A media... Drive A error. System halt I'm not sure if my game issues are related to the BIOS flash failing. If you have any ideas at all, please let me know.
ronin688 Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Well before you look into a BIOS chip from tmod, I'd at least do a cmos clear and see if that gets you anywhere. For updating your BIOS, your best bet is to use the tmod BIOS cd found here in the BIOS factory section. IT is by far the easiest and safest method. Good luck, worst case scenario for you is you might have to send away for the new BIOS chip. So it's not too bad.
Praz Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 You can try a 24 hour CMOS Clear. The link is in my sig. Follow it to the letter. Once you reboot and if it is successful flash the bios using Tmod's cd. All files and instructions are in this thread. Tmod's Bios Flash CD & Utility CDs NF/4/3/2+ATI If you are unable to successfully boot order a chip from Tmod.
Azio Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I'm performing a 24-hour clear. If I'm really lucky it'll get me somewhere. Unlikely though.
ReelFiles Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Yeah I doubt it, good luck though.
drmalenko Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 I just ordered a chip from TMOD just so I can swap BIOS without flashing. Not to mention I can take the Chip out now which is stable at 2.7 and play around with so heavy OC'n and if it goes down just pop my old chip back in. Cant think of a better way to tweak the system... just my 0.02$
