iamkoza Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Go with mwave.com. Thats where I got the processor in my sig. I am not sure how good the Arctic Freezer64 (is that a Freezer Pro?) is compared with the sock cooler-the stock cooler is pretty dang good-good enough for me to use it over a Zalman 7700AlCu. If I were to buy cooling for it, I would get a Zalman 9500/9700 or the like. the stock cooler they are shipping with the newer opty's looks like it might actually do a decent job, id try it before you buy another one. I already had my xp-90, so thats why i didnt bother with the stock one.
custom_coms Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Decent job as in it BEATS your XP-90!! http://www.madshrimps.be/?action=getarticl...598&articID=399 That is their four heatpipe unit (the newest one available, which I DID NOT receive with my Opteron). I recieved the unit in this review, which is also a good performing solution-http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=dcopteroncooling&page=8 With more thought, I am thinking about going back to my Zalman-those tests were run at low fan speeds to reduce noise, and I could care less about noise (because my fishtank with its pumps is waaaay louder than my pc). bchivers Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 I'll wait till I get the cpu and try the stock cooler, I didn't realize their coolers were so good. Thanks. I'll be putting a rig together for a friend, he does very little gaming, and I was thinking about a Opteron 180 is this a good choice? Thraxz Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Too expensive... not worth the performance if you run stock speeds -or- OC. Just get an X-2 in the stock speed case and the 165 in the OC scenario.

Thraxz Posted November 6, 2006 Posted November 6, 2006 Yes, I'd agree with a core2duo if you can swing the price. Any Conroe core....
