Installed SP2 now crash

Recommended Posts

Im new at this. I recently built a system with the specs below, it was running perfectly untill i decided to finally install the service pack 2 for my working xp pro sp 1. The problem occured after the installation of this update. When i turn it on it goes to the windows load screen (the black one with the scrolling blue bar) then it stays there. I looked on windows help website it said that it may be a bios problem.

I was wondering if this was a likely diagnosis- and if flashing would be the fix... i have the 6/23-3 bios currently installed for the LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-D.

I was attempting to flash the bios and now im running into a wall. I set my floppy drive to priority number one in my cmos, and dl-ed the newest bios revision- extracted NF4LD32p.zip from dfi's main dl page.

http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bio..._FLAG=A&SITE=US

i extracted them and put them on a floppy, inserted the floppy and turned it on. It ran till it says somthing about inserting a system disk and to press enter once i have it in there...

Any help is appreciated.

Can you boot into windows using safe mode? Its but pressing the f5 button when you try to load windows. Next time you try to boot up it sould come up and ask you. And when you get in if it lets you try to windows restore and maybe you will get lucky. It might work. But sp2 can really screww up some stuff. Wish you luck.

would formating floppy as ms-dos startup disk fix anything?

Yes. It needs to be a bootable floppy. Unless you download this instead: NF4LD406.EXE (It's right below the one you downloaded and is bootable)

From the DFI website:

Diamond Flash Image is unique feature developed by DFI to facilitate users flashing BIOS. User does not have to run the complicated procedures, but just flash the BIOS as an easy job.

1. Prepare one piece of clean floppy diskette.

2. Run the BIOS file from website directly or copy it to HDD to run.

3. It will image to floppy disk drive "A" including flash utility, BIOS file along with instruction and create booting program automatically.

4. Boot up the system from FDD. It will automatically flash the BIOS.

5. Press "F1" as instructed when completing the flashing.

6. Run "Load Optimized Defaults" or "Load Setup Defaults" in BIOS after completing the BIOS flashing.

The absolute easiest way to flash BIOS is the procedure MalibuSS pointed out.

However I doubt a new BIOS would change anything. The BIOS you have 6/23-3 is a good reliable one, which support your hardware.

What I wonder is if there's some kind of conflict in the operating system. Did you install the Dual core driver and optimizer when using SP1? My guess is just that if those drivers were installed and you upgraded to SP2 there could be updates conflicting with the drivers. I repeat I'm just guessing.

Have you tried to disconnect everything except the necessary and using just one module of memory? I assume you previously have tested your system for stability.

Another question: for SP2 to be fully installed it asks you to do a reboot, so did boot into windows succesfully the first time?

If you are going to flash any BIOS onto your board - you should be using TMod's BIOS CD. It is by far the easiest and safest way to flash a BIOS onto these boards... but as above, your problem doesn't sound like something that a new BIOS will fix. Sounds like your install of SP2 is bad, either due to a bad disk or corruption or the like...

To these questions, i did install the dual core driver under sp1. I didnt try to disconnect everything yet, i will try that next. and no i dont know how to test for system stability. sorry, as stated im new so bear with me.

No windows did not load successfully the first time.

I will try all of the possible solutions...

Hello,

Do not attempt to flash the bios.

whenever you build a new pc or get a new cpu/memory you must test it with memtest.

Enter the bios and go to GENIE SETTINGS

Go down to the middle of the page and enable RUN MEMTEST86+.

Then let this run for at least 3 hours.

If you get any errors stop and try 1 stick at a time in the top orange slot.

Make sure that all 4 power connectors are plugged into the board

# 24pin ATX connector.

# 4pin +12v P4 connector, near the ATX connector.

# Floppy power connector, under the CPU socket.

# Hard drive power connector, on top the chipset fan.

Insert the memory into the Orange slots
