Hey guys, any users of the above HSF?

Whats the position that you guys mount the HSF?

I have mine with the fan blowing downwards so my graphics card gets some air over it, as its passive.

On my old Asus A8N sli premium it blew straight out the back towards my 12cm exhaust fan.

I also lapped the base of the cooler which knocked a couple of degrees off.

I tried mounting mine both towards the rear and up (decided on the up)

I think playah amd Lithotech had them facing the rear.

I was very sceptical at fist especially since my gpu is passive cooled but it never goes over 55 degrees, I do have a 12cm fan in my case window blowing over both the HSF and the gpu so thats probably helping

Mine is currentley facing up (fan closest to GPU). I would rather have it blowing to the rear of the case, but there isnt enough tension on my naked opty's (148 and 150)

wdEvA, glad it's working well for you.

as a further explanation the Opty 170 has the IHS removed, the AC64 seemed less secure to me when I rotated it to the rear (make have done it wrong).

In addition I know a bunch of us had really good luck lapping the AC 64 as the bottom is very rough.

It is the only "clip on" cooler than worked on a "lidless" CPU for me without any modification.

@X98

me too, the spring bracket fits nice and snug where it is. Moved and it didnt feel as tight or stable, and theres a little issue of clearance with rear bottom fins that face down.

also

anyone got a link for a 'how to' on lapping?
