Missing IDE drives during startup and in bios

Recommended Posts

All,

After installing my new water cooling setup, I can no longer see any IDE drives during power on or in the bios. It doesn't matter if I use different IDE cables or hard drive or cd-rom drive, it doesn't recongize it at all.

During boot up it sees memory and timings, the NF4 SLI line and Detecting IDE sees nothing. It does see my SATA drives though.

It is very strange and I am baffled by this. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe bad bios chip?

Update: I have done the recommended CMOS clear for 8 hours and still no go. :-(

I have had this problem before, try 1 drive at a time on a different cable.

Although you *might* have hosed your IDE controller if you had a small leak, also check that PSU...your packin some pretty serious gear on a 550w...

I used different cables and both IDE controllers and same issue. No leaks on IDE controller that I know of. It may be PSU but I am not sure. Anyone with any other ideas?

Hello,

Did you place a water block on the chipset?

These are very delicate chips.

Why not have your user profile sig viewable?

No waterblock on chipset just CPU and GPUs. Anyone with any other ideas?

I assume that you have an external/2nd PSU for your WC setup, but all the same, unmount the blocks, and disconnect 1 of your vid cards and then try again. Also, is AUTO-DETECT on in the BIOS settings?

Problem has been resolved due to 2 bad IDE cables. Used another and it was successfully detected. Thanks for all the assistance!:P

Mods please change title to "Resolved" or how do you do that?. Thanks!
