OK

very odd. Got a mate around to look at it. We pulled it all out again, tested the componants, all fine, and then replaced the parts back in thecase. Now it's working, as before - no problems. Had it running fine for 2 days, doing all sorts of tests and heavy benchmarks. Left it on overnight to download some stuff, and wake up this morning to find my power off and the safety switch (fuse) off as if some massive power surge had happened, only to switch the computer on to check and now it's doing the exact same thing as before!

Hopefully the two aren't related?

To heat the fan, i just had a hair dryer (professional one with controllable heat) on really low until I could twist it off without forcing it.
