Zalman CNPS7700 or Scythe Mine?

hehe, the psu will be changed next year, but for now i dont' have money for it (must bild a second rig with my winnie....maybee i will put the Chieftec there).

My problem is that my opty is running @ 72* C, 290x10, 1.48V

what do you think will the mine (with a 12cm fan) help me? (compared to my old Zalman)

...also the Corsair modules are very high and didn't fit right with the zalman...the module near to the cpu is like 5-10 degrees off....but it works....:)))

sorry for my bad signature....can't change it for now cuz i'm at the office

well at 72c you got more then cpu cooler problem. you should get better temps then that with a stock cooler I would be guessing that eather you got a miss reading software program or you might wont to pull that cooler and check and or reaply your TIM sounding to me as you eather dont have any or way to much. Or that the cpu cooler is not on right. whats the cpu temp reading in the bios?

The TIMs i used where: something called "nano blue" from titan and some white silicon stuff that came with my volcano 11+, i applied them well but still very high temps while ocing; at 1.35V with FSB (or HTT or what ever) of 250 i get like 65* C.

Naturally i speek of load temperatures, with 2x prime95 torture test "in-place large FFTs" running on both cores for at least 30-60 minutes. The mesuements where made with smart guardian and everest ultimate...in bios the +10*C where added couse CoreTemp (and everest ulitmate) showed different temps for the core than the thermal diode for both my winie and my opty In fact for my opty the core0 was like 80, and the core1 was in the high 60-es zone. With the +10 in bios the temps match to the 2nd core...the first core is always like 5-10 degrees higher than the second.

I fear that the opty has some problems transferring heat form the core to the IHS :(

what would you say?

i would like to point out that at stoc speeds the temps are normal for my belive...also look at my sig i have plenty of system cooling.

oh I see so your reading from CoreTemp program that reading the temp sensor of the CPU and not the board sensor Is this right? there is a tread going on about the difference between the two temp readings. All see if i can find it

Edit here might wont to take a read here

i tried to match the board sensor to the cpu sensor(s) with the help of CoreTemp, couse my winies temps where at the lower end of the 40es area with 278x9 at full load (way too low)...so i put +10 in the bios and for the winie it was fine...

problem is that the optys cores run at different temperatures (at maximum load they differ up to 10 degrees), namely the second is ALWAYS lower.

the deal is if i set the thermal correction in bios back to 0 (no thermal correction) i would read temps like this at load:

SmartGuardian cpu: ~50* C

CoreTemp core0: ~70* C

CoreTemp core2: ~60* C

so i have a 20 degree difference between the boards thermal diode and the first cores sensor!!!

1. why is the 10 degree difference between the cores?

2. why is the 10-20 degree difference between the mobos sensor and the cpus sensor?

3. why did my winie run at maximum 55 and my opty tops 70 in smart guardian and even 80 in CoreTemp (first core)?

4. how could i get some accurate temps?

HaHa well my friend before three days ago. I thought I had a grip on the temp thing but after that tread is sent you to I am like you I just don't know what temp to believe. And I once heard the GOD MASTER say I don't care about temps. And so with that said both of your CPUs have a temp shut off so if they get to hot they shut themselves down. Every board is different once someone starts playing with the offsets of the temp readings in the bios I just don't see how they can be a reliable source to compair temps with

i changed the zalman to the mine...no drop in the temperatures

i belive i will clock it back to 280x10 and use it that way....

to answer my question on an opty cpu clocked to 290x10 at full load (dual prime) they perform the same. On the other hand i observed, that at 280x10 in idle the mine performed well widouth the use of the 12cm fan. I belive that's becouse the huge size of the sink and the two 12cm fans near to it (specially the rear exhaust). I kept it over night, my tuner app was running (i always do that) wich has a deinterlace filter that uses ~20% of the cpu, and the cpu reached a maximum of 53* C. With the Zalman i used to set the cooler to ~1200rpm in idle to achieve that. Another thing i observed is that the PWMIC is sightly higher with the mine (+5* C) than with the zalman, i belive that's becouse the zalman pushes air toward the PWMIC sensor, and the mine don't.

The memories fit better with the mine, but it is way higher than the zalman, therefore i had to remove my hard from the side panel (yes i have a harddisk on the side panel) to fit it in my case.

In my opinion: they perform the same at high load, the mine performs a bit better in idle; the zalman looks better, is heavyer (almost double as the mine), cools the surroundings better, but is way harder to install and fit into your board, specially with big memory modules as my corsair XMS's.

If you would like to see a review comparing the zalman to the mine and some asus low budget cooler featuring my opty and my winie, and comparing the zalman and the mine and a volcano 11+ featuring a Barton 2500+ clocked at 207x11 with pictures and stuff than drop a line couse i ain't have plans for the weekend :)

ever consider a 250mm side case fan, you can have it as instake or flip it around

and have it as exhaust

1. where do i buy it (in romania)?

2. i don't think it would fit with the HUGE mine
