i'm scared

my rig is in the sig.

stock cooling.

i tried to overclock the CPU (4200) a bit.

i changed the FSB from 200MHz to 205MHZ and all was good.

i then upped it to 215MHz and everything booted fine, but 15seconds after i logged on it rebooted and this continues to happen.

i put the FSB back to 200MHz and it is still rebooting and saying windows has recovered from a critical error.

this was the first time i tried to overclock so i'm technically a 'n00b'.

help....

could the CPU have died from heat?

could i fix this.

was the FSB way too high?

suggestions/help PLEASE!!!!!

Alright Mate , It could be your power supply. You did read the guide before you started overclocking.?. You may of corrupted windows and may need to reinstall it. Like the guide says use a spare hardrive just in case this happens. What temps did you cpu get too? did you check in the bios?very much doubt the fsb was too high. Someone who has this chip will be more help to you.... But no doubt this is the right place to come for help.

i checked the CPU temp in bios when it rebooted and it said it was around 40something celsius.... not that hot.

i was trying to avoid a reinstall but oh well.

just thought that there could be a fast way to fix it.

if anyone else has any suggestions, feel free....

Have you tested your RAM with memtest? When using 4 sticks of RAM you need to have CPC in BIOS enabled. Your RAM is suspect as is your PSU.

Read up on the overclocking guide

It's right above this thread actually. There is plenty of information in there to get the most out of your PC, experienced folks and noobs alike. Everyone will learn something from that sticky. It's a great asset to the forum as are all of the stickies here. Good luck.

i never ran memtest - it didn't work the one time i tried and i never tried again.

Memtest will tell you if your memory is stable at those settings/timings. You might want to use it. Using the default (auto) settings for overclocking is a no-no.

Read the Definitive Overclocking guide. It'll answer everything.

CPC enabled is T1. it probably needs to be disabled When running 4 sticks. Unless of Croce he know how to set up his memory
