poligoon Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 I just got my Asus A7N8X yesterday and I put it in my machine, and now when ever it starts to load windows, it restarts. I've tried running my ram in dual mode, single stick, everything i could think of.Everything is in there tight, temps are good. Its got a Barton 2500+, 512 Samsung DDR 400, Radeon 9600 in there. Anyone have any ideas?? Oh, and i havent OCed it yet either.
LobbDogg Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 have you tried different ram, I know that some versions of the A7n8x had problems with samsung ram.
Pizoi Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Did you do a fresh windows install after installing the motherboard? There may be some sort of driver conflict that's causing windows to have a heart attack. How about booting up in safe mode?
LobbDogg Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Thats true, whenever I install a different mobo, I always reinstall Windows, especially if the mobo has a different chipset on it than the old one.
poligoon Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 I usually do a fresh install when i change any major hardware, not sure why i didnt this time lol. No differnt RAM to test it with, though maybe i can find some one who has some. Thanks for the help
ClayMeow Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Yeah, unless you had a a7n8x before, or one that uses the exact same drivers and bios chip, windows won't be able to recognize it properly. A fresh install is unfortunately necessary.

zep_54 Posted November 6, 2003 Posted November 6, 2003 I had the same problem, make sure you have enough wattage running to it, and your psu is a crappy peice. That fixed my restarts!
ClayMeow Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 I had the same problem, make sure you have enough wattage running to it, and your psu is a crappy peice. That fixed my restarts! yup, that happened to one of my systems. the 5v controls the reset button on your computer. If it ever shorts even for a millisecond on your psu, the mobo thinks you hit the restart button and it resets.
Eva_Unit_0 Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 That's exactly what my comp does if I push my ram too hard...I'd suspect your ram. Try lowering the ram speed. (Just set it all the way down to 200mhz or something crazy like that...its just a test after all) One of my sticks of ram, a 512mb 2700, is very picky, so I've seen this issue a lot. But who knows? It may be something else
poligoon Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 Well still no luck, seems to be maybe a harddrive problem.I just have to get my backup copy of XP to boot(burnt it wrong, non-bootable) could be a psu problem too, will find out tomorow when i take it to work and use the shops test stuff if i cant get it tonight. asus Posted November 7, 2003 Posted November 7, 2003 First, its not your hd. Second, its prob your psu, get a cheep powersupply at newegg.com, i had a similar problem, windows would start to load and bam, like i hit the restart button, the computer restarts. I got a cheep 375 w power supply and boom. Everythink works. But make shure you have everything pluged in tight. The restart and power button, IEEE cables, moltex cables, everything, psu into mobo. why dont you have a regular copy of windows xp. Do you own the actuial software. Because if you dont, your out of luck if the cd does not boot. Sorry. If you do own it which you should, use the regular cd, wait untill you get to the blue screen where you have options, take out the "Actuial - Real cd" put in your burned backup copy. Then go from there. Try installing xp under fat 32, just see if you can get it to boot. Then, if it boots, just use that until you get a bigger power supply, because someone told me that fat 32 is just a little more power conserving format?? I dont know this to be true but its worth a shot. My friend that just im'ed me said ITS YOUR PSU, he worked for a compony called atto. He worked with computers every day of his life. He is only 25. So , get a new psu!!
