Dead Mobo?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was wondering what the Heatsink in the top right hand corner of my Lanparty NF4-SLi DR board is, coz err... mine emits smoke when i try to turn it on

I would REALLY prefer to try and save this board, as i have a RAID 0 Setup on it and really would be pissed if i lose all my data

Hello,

Top right = memory voltage MOSFET, controls memory voltage.

How/when did it start to smoke?

Did you change the voltage settings or move the higher than 3.2v jumpers?

Well its fixable but that means desoldering the old FET and soldering a new one.

When using the 4V jumper you must never clear the CMOS and power the PC.

(You must move the jumpers back first.)

If something happened that caused the CMOS to reset it would have done the above. (which is bad)

Do not power the pc again and contact DFI to find out if they can help.

Heatsink is stuck on it, just need thermal tape or thermal glue.

If you remove the heatsink the FET should have some numbers on it, that should be a sort of universal reference number. If it is unreadable you could ask DFI.

The FET is a Variable voltage regulator, if you know an electrical engineer or expert they may be able to advise you of a suitable replacement.

Make sure you mention that is needs to handle 2.5v to 5v.

Ask DFI first :)
