0x000000a5 why am i getting this?

i got a new DFI mobo (in sig) and after a few minor problem that i figured out when i try to reformat OR start my exsiting windows xp media center instalation it gives me the 0x000000a5 blue screen. i have tried eveything i can think of and all the solutions ive seen dont seem to work PLEASE SOMEONE HLP ME!

Have you ran MemTest (in the BIOS) on your RAM for 8 hours to check your timings are stable?

 

Got all 3 power connectors plugged into the board?

 

And I don't think your PSU is on the Recommended PSU List for DFI motherboards (but correct me if i'm wrong please :)

 

When you say "Single Stick of pc3200 for diagnostic purposes" what do you mean exactly? The Expert is very picky about RAM so this could be it :)

i dont think that power supply is on the list but it has all the proper connections, all three power connectiors are connected. the ram is good cause i have ran mem test on it before for about 8 hours. i have a single stick of ram in it to rule out any problems with ram. the stick i have gets along with the mother board just fine too..

Can you list the specs of your PSU? Amps on the 12V rail is most important...

The Recommended PSU list is there to show the PSU's that work best with this board, so if it's not on there it's most likely not appropriate. Bear in mind you have a very high-powered CPU and Graphics Card. If you can find an OCZ GameXStream/any PSU on the list to test out, it would be of great help :)

i cant get any other power supply to test it (meaning i wont buy another one) and if the mobos that picky about all this i should send it back

Oh it's Aspire...

So why spend all that cash on a blazing CPU and Graphics Card, and then risk all of it by buying a frankly dangerous PSU

Anything ASPIRE = Rubbish.

 

What memory do you have?

And is it in the orange slot(s)?

 

2nd that, do yourself a favour, get a PSU on the Recommended List, and then your PC will most likely work. Al you have to do is a quick scan of the forum and you'll see how many problems have been caused by a bad PSU, and instantly solved by getting a new one.

Haha, I love people who blame the motherboard.

 

Here's a general rule of thumb.

If you don't have the high-quality equipment to back it up, don't buy the best board on the market

As someone here on the forums said quite a while ago, it's like buying a sports car and then filling it with trashy petrol instead of the high-quality stuff it deserves and needs.

 

Ok, maybe I misquoted cos that doesn't sound right, but I'm sure there are 100ish people here that would agree with me. A new PSU is 99% likely to fix your problems, and even if you get a different motherboard, that Aspire PSU is gonna come back and bite you in the butt one day, and don't come running saying "Oh my PSU fried my CPU and Graphics Card" (which is pretty likely) cos we'll just say we told you so.

 

So get a new PSU whatever you do, and sorry to hear you don't like DFI, unlike the rest of us

The DFI is fine. Unfortunately, Aspire (or Apevia or whatever name they hide it under) is crap. Why would you buy so many expensive, and high quality components, then try to save money on the PSU?????? Would you rather that $25 PSU fries the mobo, CPU, vid card, etc? I just don't get it............:rolleyes:
