Capo Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Hey all, I currently have a XP2000+ Tbred A core (1.67ghz stock) proc and was wanting to give it a little bit of an OC, a safe OC, as to not hurt it, but just something to get a little extra juice out. My mobo is an A7n8x dlx r2.0 and I'll be getting some new pc3200 ram soon as well to get the 400mhz fsb. What can I safely OC this too? if so, what should I set my bios settings as to get this OC? Thanks!
Guest Trios Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 (edited) My 2000+ on an Asus 87N8X-X (same chipset as your board, just fewer goodies) didn't OC well at all. I had up to the voltage to 1.85 just to get a measely 1860 MHz out of it. Thank God I'm having better luck with my Volcano 11 than some people here, I still dont go above 45 load. My suggestion...if you want a truly safe, cool, and non-voltage-intensive OC, go for 1750 or maybe 1800. I could hit 1720 on my stock 1.65 volts, but after that I had to start hitting the voltage hard in order to get stable. *shrug* Play around with it, every chip is different. MJ0588 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 yea as trios said every chip is different, your best bet is just to play arouond with it and find the highest you can get it to stable without increasing your vcore much
FanATIc205 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 a safe oc for that cpu will be around 1800-1900mhz some will do 2ghz too. just dont expect a big oc on that cpu since the stepping isnt the greatest to oc with

FanATIc205 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 for overclocking the tbred a cores arent really good for overclocking . its not a bad chip just not a good overclocking one
MJ0588 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 (edited) for overclocking the tbred a cores arent really good for overclocking . its not a bad chip just not a good overclocking one i dunno about that man, ive seen quite a few 1700 t-breds at 2400mhz and higher trios i would have thought that you could hit 2ghz at least, but i really dont know much about that chip, and some chips just arent good oc'ers, my barton for instance Edited November 5, 2003 by MJ0588
howie b Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 (edited) those were "B" cores...."A" cores on average max out about 1900-2000 mhz. EDIT what barton do you have that doesn't OC well???? Capo Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Thanks for the help. I found that helpful. My only question now is, can my xp2000 Tbred A core run at 200 (400) mhz FSB? Currently, I only have ghetto PC2100 ram going at 133 (266) mhz. Will I be able to run my system at 400fsb with this system? Eva_Unit_0 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 Yeah, you could theoretically run at 400fsb (if the proc will make it), you'd just have to run the ram at a fraction of the fsb. (That's the memory speed setting that has percents as your options). That isn't the best for performance, of course, but you could still do it. FanATIc205 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 yeah if you mobo and and ram can do 200fsb then lowering the multi to say 9 will give you 1800mhz and a nice performance boost
entrancer0122 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 My XP2000 is currently running at 166x13.5 @ 1.675V on KD7-Raid. I was at 175 but was worried about corrupting my Hard Drives because I only have as a max a 5:2:1 divider for FSB/AGP/PCIBus. I was able to run AA no problems but was afraid to push it with Sandra. I def. think you'll be able to do it and with decent cooling maybe the awesome 2500 would be attainable. !!!!! 200 x 12.5 !!!!!
