Pizoi Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 Earlier today I was optimizing my ram timings while killing some time waiting for the hockey game to come on. I was benchmarking with Sandra after every change. Now everything i've read states that lower numbers across the board = faster performance. In this case though, my RAS timing offered better performance at 10 than it did at 5. System specs in my sig. I'm currently running my FSB at 166mhz, which explains the slow speeds so please don't laugh Anyways, I upped my timings to 2-2-2-5, believing that those numbers would be optimal. That setup benched 2410mb/s int, 2260mb/s float. After changing them to 2-2-2-10, it was benching at 2430mb/s int, 2300mb/s float. I played around with the RAS timings a bit after seeing that, and noted that the speeds got faster as I set the timing higher, then started dropping again if it was set any higher than 10. Basically, i'm wondering if there's something different about the A7N8x mobo and/or the NForce2 chipset that would explain this? Is this normal, or is something out of whack? FanATIc205 Posted November 5, 2003 Posted November 5, 2003 yes the nf2 boards benefit greatly from running a cas to ras of 10 or 11 . it has something to do with latency issues with the mobo and ram . but like you said after a certain number it starts to drop back down again . on a good note thou you can usally get a few more mhz outa the ram running the cas to ras at 11 or
