Angry_Games Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Nah, can't be taboo. DFI Street actually has a How-To guide, I think, for doing this. This was on the S939 boards, but it should be identical. ~Ibrahim~ it is an NF4 chipset on the Ultra-II AM2 after all...
ikjadoon Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 it is an NF4 chipset on the Ultra-II AM2 after all... Yup and I am extremely happy that DFI has done this. It makes a great overclocking AM2 motherboard at a great price. I recommend this board for anyone needing a cheap AM2 rig: DFI FTW! Oh yeah, I found that link if you're still looking: SLi Mod Guide ~Ibrahim~
thejamesvolta Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I don't need it in SLI. I just want to put the card in PCI X slot 3 for cooling purposes as well due to my large HSF is very close to my graphics card which is the hottest thing in my case. I just want to know if I just have to put the card in that slot and it is automatically 8x, or if i have to do something with some jumpers. Spunkmeyer6 Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Move the big bank of jumpers that is between the two slots, dont worry there are not as many as it looks ( joined together in blocks ). No cutting or soldering required. And it works at 8x.
thejamesvolta Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 I will give it a go. It looks intimidating though. Have never done that before.
thejamesvolta Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Here is a pic of my system. Do you think it will even help moving my video card down? I can feel heat coming off of it and right above it is my HSF. Is moving it an overkill? I guess the only way to find out is by trial and error. SpursIndonesia Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Hey, your rig looks pretty neat and nice, just slap a better hsf for the NF4 chipset, and some heatsinks for those heat producing mosfets, that would help a lot in reducing system temp IMHO. d-mart Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 u move it further down 2nd slot, IMHO VGA hsf will have less air to breathe.
Spunkmeyer6 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Temps seem about the same on mine, well lower because winter is setting in now. But that wasn't the reason I moved it, was more for access. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814125025 That coupled with a Scythe Ninja plus was too crowded. thejamesvolta Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 i was thinking of modding my case side panel and adding another 80mm fan under where the other one is to get some airflow to my video card. but yeah, i was planning on going with either the evercool cooler, or thermalright hr-05 sli cooler. one is more expensive than the other so i am still in debate. SpursIndonesia@ I didn't know you could put heatsinks on the mosfets. Dumb question, which ones are the mosfets. I have always been a little confused by that. Could someone please clarify. What kind of heatsinks/where could I get them for the mosfets? Here is the only pic of the case that I have. You can see where the 80mm fan is on the side where I want to put one underneath. I also want to add an exhaust fan on the top (80mm).
