Unofficial F.E.A.R. Performance Test Chart & Discussion Thread

'ello all,

 

I'm relatively new around here and I've talked to a mod, and they said this is where I should put this.

 

Now you're probably wondering what exactly this is, so I'm going to include a step by step guide, so it'll be idiot proof

 

This thread will be dedicated to the discussion of, and posting of, result screen captures from the Performance Test benchmark built in to the FEAR full version game, as well as the original FEAR Multiplayer Demo (AVAILABLE HERE: http://fear.filefront.com/file/FEAR_Multip...;47969#Download), which is downloadable from their website (NO IT IS NOT AVAILABLE IN FEAR COMBAT).

 

Now, there are rules. But just a few.

 

1. Your scores must be complete (Minimum, Average and Maximum required) and preferably accompanied by a screenshot (you can do a "Print Screen" on your keyboard when you get to the results of the test and then paste that in MSPaint and convert it using any number of picture editing programs, then post a link to it or post it directly here).

 

2. You MUST list your system specs, including but not limited to:

Your Name - Processor - Processor Speed - RAM & Speed & Timings - Video Card(s) with speeds (Core & RAM) & Driver Version - Motherboard make, model & BIOS - Monitor used for testing, along with the refresh rate (if you want)

Also please list whether you have VSync turned on or off, as that drastically effects performance and FPS rates.

 

Now, I'll give you an example of what mine would look like so it's crystal clear:

3. You MUST use the Maximum Settings for both Computer and Video Card. If you're aiming to get higher scores, go in to the Display settings and turn OFF Vsync, otherwise you'll get capped at your refresh rate, maximum frames per second wise.

 

Note: This should not be run on anything less than a 3.0GHz Pentium or a 2.0GHz AMD processor, and cannot be ran on anything less than 1GB of ram unless your virtual memory paging file is turned on, which will severely degrade your performance. I advise checking the “Recommended Specifications” listed on the F.E.A.R. retail box before trying to test your computer at these settings on the game’s Performance Test.

 

Now that that's out of the way, we have the matter of how the chart will work. Chart positions will be based on the AVERAGE frames per second result. This means that people will be ranked according to the AVERAGE, not the Minimum or Maximum. In the event that there is a tie (on the Average FPS) they will be placed based on their MINIMUM frames per second. If by some miracle two people have the exact same AVERAGE and MINIMUM FPS results, they will be placed based on their MAXIMUM frames per second result. And, last but not least... if by some... strange miracle of chance... two people have the same Min, Avg and Max readouts, they will simply be listed as TIED.

 

Now, there will be TWO different categories for these charts. One will be based off of the results you get with VSync turned ON, the other will be based off of your results with VSync turned OFF. This is because the two results are VERY different in most cases. Also they will also be sectioned off to separate SLI and non-SLI systems.

 

And, last but not least, these tests must be run on the default settings of MAXIMUM on both Computer and Video Card. Again I will provide an idiot-proof guide in this post, if not later on in the post, within the next few days.

 

Also, I'll be postin' my own stuff right after I set this thread up to give you an idea of what is required, hehe.

Note: IN ORDER FOR YOUR ENTRY TO BE POSTED TO THE CHART YOU NEED TO PROVIDE A SCREEN CAPTURE OF YOUR RESULTS RAN AT MAXIMUM/MAXIMUM SETTINGS!

 

Also Note: THE SETTINGS YOU USE TO DO THIS TEST DO NOT HAVE TO BE OCDB STABLE!

 

Also, to ensure that it runs well for you I do recommend downloading all the FEAR updates and running this test on the 1.08 version of the game.

 

Idiot-Proof Guide

 

Step 1:

Open the Game-

 

 

Step 2:

Go to Options > Performance > :

 

 

Step 3:

Set both Computer and Video Card to MAXIMUM:

 

 

Step 4:

Hit "Test Settings":

 

 

Step 5:

Once the Results pop up, hit "Print Screen" and paste it in to MSPaint:

 

 

Step 6:

Post the screenie here with your specs. If you don't know how to do this part... well, I'll post screenies on how to do it too LOL And PLEASE post it in thumbnail format after uploading to Imageshack or another image hoster, I don't want people complaining because this thread takes forever to load!

Eh, that ain't bad, 'specially considering that monitor is crippling you when it comes to VSync on, I'm gonna hook up my monsterous CRT that can do 100Hz @ 1024x768 and retest on VSync On LMAO See how she does then. May not raise the min and avg much but I'm sure it'll boost my maximum.

My new VSync test, screen wouldn't do 100Hz for some reason so I backed it off to 85Hz, here tis:

you rig is capable of... all you need to do is go to your Shared Documents folder then Monolith Productions folder and inside go into FEAR... then edit the settings.cfg file at the "ScreenWidth" and "ScreenHeight" lines... and you can run at any real resolution your monitor is capable of.

 

Just don't go into Display settings because it will revert everything back to normal 4:3 resolutions.
