kup22r Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 i have a Sony R505 laptop and I would like to install Linux on it. I've been trying to get this accomplished for the past month or two, because I know it can be done (I've seen a site that sells my brand of laptop with Linux pre-installed and all of the hardware, etc works fine except for the special things the touchpad does in Windows). The problem with getting it installed is the docking station. The install will boot with the boot disk but once i'm asked for drivers (i'm assuming so that it can read the cd from the cdrom, which is on the docking station) my drivers disk doesn't work. Can anybody help?
d3bruts1d Posted November 3, 2003 Posted November 3, 2003 Have you tried installing without using the docking station? And what distro of linux?
kup22r Posted November 4, 2003 Posted November 4, 2003 RH9, sorry. i can't install w/out the station, the station is where the cd-rom is...
VolcomPimp Posted November 6, 2003 Posted November 6, 2003 I think maybe you're misunderstanding something about the install... Ive never had a linux distro ask me for drivers... I dont remember if RH9 asks for boot params or not but most others do so Im guessing its coming up w/ a screen asking what kernel to use... you should just press enter and it should work...
