I want to build another computer!!! If you read my last post about overclocking a dell, well whoever responded, i did give it to my sister. I will use my p4 3.2 GHz. But i am building another computer. Ok, should i get a p43.0Ghz or a p4 2.8GHz, only 200mhz diffrence. Does anybod know how they overclock the Northwood core, if im spelling it right. Which is more practical, will i get a higher overclocke wiht the 2.8 GHz or wiht the 3 GHz? Please tell me so i can deside.

One thing you want to consider is cooling. You're not going to get a good overclock if you're not going to provide very good cooling on the higher end cpu's. You could overclock a 2.6 to 3.0, maybe 3.2 with air cooling. For sure 3.2 with water cooling. If your going to overclock a high end 3.2 you better get some serious cooling or you wont get much of an overclock. Sure the speed would be higher than a 2.6 would be, but maybe you could get 3.5 with some good air cooling. I'm running a 3.2 oc'd to 3.68 and I wouldn't try it with air cooling. The temps just get too high.

The temps on a 3.2 already run high to begin with. And I would always keep the cpu below 55c max. 50c or less would be nice

Good Luck,

Devin

Well i want to get the thermotake spark 7+. Looke at this click hear!

Is this good enough to overclock a p4 3.0Ghz to about 3.45 or 3.5 GHz? I dont want water cooling. Maby down the road when i have more money :P , but any sugestions for air cooling if i am going to do an overclock like this?

Check out the sunflower2 from AVC. It's a pretty awesome heatsink. I lapped mine and got some pretty great temps out of it. It's got a monster fast fan on it. You just got to make sure you have it seated propperly. If you want there is some guides to lapping on this site. You can pick up the sandpaper from a paint supply store. If you want to go that far. I did and it helped alot. dropped 5-10 degrees c. Also use arctic silver 5 thermal paste. Spread it real thin too. Paper thin. The more you lap your heatsink the thinner the thermal paste layer can be. But just make sure you've got enough to make full contact between the heatsink and the cpu.
