Cuttlefish1212 Posted October 6, 2006 Posted October 6, 2006 I have it on good authority...as in the "source"...that the Opty 165 will continue to drop in price so might not want to open your wallets just yet
Nil Einne Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Hmm no one appears to have noticed the cuts in the web media that I could find surprisingly. It's largely gone unnoticed. AMD doesn't publish Opteron prices for us mere mortals so no help there. But I'm thinking that maybe AMD is planning to cut the prices soon and some distro just realised they had . loads of excess stock they purchased at the old price and need to clear it ASAP before the real price cuts come. Am I warm?

Cuttlefish1212 Posted October 9, 2006 Posted October 9, 2006 Yeah...Newegg is still putting out CCBBE steppings according to reviewers. Pretty much any stepping in 2006 should be a decent chip if not terrific

Nil Einne Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Well it looks like I was right. Official price cuts are coming soon http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4503 So probably I was right and some distro is offloading old stock before the real price cuts come. I have to admit however that I'm somewhat surprised at these price cuts. They're not as large as I had expected. They're similar to the current new prices. I was thinking the current prices would be still be more then the official price cuts since I had assumed whoever is offloading old stock would be doing so at slightly more then the future official price cuts.
