Simple Memory question.

Recommended Posts

Awesome, yes im looking @ those Gskills at the moment, plan to purchase those or the patriots are looking pretty well too. Running memtest now on my pc with one at a time in the slot orange nearest to the edge of the board, we will see how it goes, any idea though why i get that scrambled screen from cold boots occasionally? i takes about 2-5 power down then up, to get it to go away, been through 2 PSU, only thing i can think of is board or vid card

thanks in advance.

you guys help hell of a lot you should be paid for all this :P

I would suspect your video card, video card drivers or power supply before I suspected the board. The LanParty Ultra-D (IMHO) is probably one of the best motherboards ever built.

That prob. weazles it down to the vid card, it did it also with my OCZ 520 modstream and now with my Antec TP550, does it very rarely. and yes this board is bad arse, i knew it could not be a bad bored, this bored is a freaking tank honestly.

Heck no Errors after a couple hours running solo. Im gonna run them again 2gether again over night.

Edit- Took a jog, as usual let mem test run with them in, after about 30 mins, i get Errors with them running in a pair, dual channel mode, Mobo or memory?im almost tempted to say compatibility issue becasue i have so much confidence in this board, but then again i dont want to be over confident and it be the board. any ideas?

Have you tried adding .1v to the DRAM Voltage? Sometimes that extra little bit of juice is what's required to get those sticks to perform properly.

yeap done that >_< made a SLIGHT difference, but still got errors , but not as much, i've ran the memory solo now in the 2nd orange slot, and it doesnt error out, im tempted to say i have a bad slot on my mobo , which means time for a new mobo. i've tried nearly everything possible. As some may notice with my loads of posts and questions im getting slightly frustrated, becasue i dont know what to shoot for now, Mem seems fine after testing out w/ no errors in those slots. so makes me think mobo, but the system runs well and stable and ran burn in tests fine over night (si soft,prime95,memtest) so i dont know what to look for now. New mobo? New Memory? as well as the scrambled graphics from cold boots occasionally bugging me too but not as much, o well, ill just play it card by card!

In addition to the advice already given, i'd run each stick individually in the topmost orange slot. If only one gives errors at your settings then you're up for an RMA... If they both give errors, then more likely your timings are way off. Also, you could try the 704-2bta BIOS (See Tony's BIOS CD) - which is notoriously memory friendly for these boards...

Gonna give those a try, havent ran anything similar to that yet.

Ganders, I've done the one by one in the uppermost slot and havent gotten any erros after say 5 passes, i get multiple errors within 5 passes with both of them in.

I also like the 0704-2bta bios. It has played friendly with three totally different kits of RAM.

OCZ PC3700 Gold 2X512

G.Skill PC4000 HZ's 2X1gb

Mushkin PC4000 Redlines 2X1gb

Good luck with the new RAM everyone.

Cheers.
