Thraxz Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Would I be better playing at larger resolutions so it is more GPU intensive? I've heard at lower resolutions it is CPU intensive and my CPU is currently running at stock speed. I play at 1024x768 and my monitor is a CRT which can only handle 1280x1024 but I played source on that and I hated it. Short answer, yes. Long answer, basically, the CPU load is a flat line. Regardless of what res the game still has to run the same physics, AI, etc. They don't really change at different resolutions. On the other hand, at 12x10 versus 16x12 resolutions your card has roughly 80% less pixels to process (1.2million versus 1.9million respectively). That's a huge load difference. At some point (generally 16x12) your graphics cards cannot possibly process frames faster that your CPU can pump out AI/physics. A bit over simplified? Sure... but it gets the point across. Xavior Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I read that you could easily pencil the GTOs to get the memory up the GTX voltages. I'll need to do some more research though, only saw it on XtremeSystems but they weren't exactly clear about it.
red930 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Just swapped out the 84.21 drivers for 91.47,went from 710/758 to 716/819 w/RivaTuner System at 2.7GHz 3Dmark06-5480 was 5357 3Dmark05-11104 3Dmark03-20442 3Dmark01-31466 AQ3 GFX-15,222 CPU-12,159 total-93,630 Was good for a few more FPS in FEAR test
lilbear Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I just received mine yesterday. Without touching the card it did 5988 in 3dmark06. A huge jump from my 6600GT and quieter too. The 4800+ is at 2.6GHz. WOW! That is GREAT! As I have a fX-55 stock @ 2.6 and this 5389 was my score on 06. with card @ 670/800 Wonder what I am doing wrong? I've been seeing similar scores and wondering how much a part Dual Core cpu plays I just ran my single core at 2850Mhz and GFX at 707/819 and scored 5561 in 06,there maybe other things that affect it as well. I might just have to do that but do I really want RivaTuner? I like coolbits I couldn't get coolbits to work w/91.47,but for the rewards it might be worth it to learn how to use RivaTuner, also RT lets me set up my fan speeds and keeps my card cool without alot of fan noise RivaTuner has let me get to 710/825,but I'm still testing and 707/819 has completed all the benches, almost got 100,000 in AQ3 at 2.91MHz and 710/825 cool

I was surprised when I saw how it compared! The difference seems to be the dual core, which scored a 1999. http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=548329

loggan26 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Conroe setup and these cards would be rocking, this is about as stable as it gets on mine.
red930 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 That's weird your cpu score is about the same as mine loggan26,but scott26 cpu score is twice ours, your both dc cpu's at 2.6GHz,mines single
loggan26 Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 Mines is not the same cache as the others i think it is half or there is something going on with the driver, just checked another x2 4200 in the OCDB and there is def something wrong with my setup as the one in there scores double as scotts, gonna have to pull the OS and reload methinks.
