Noise coming off fan on the motherboard

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

On my mother board if you were to look at the fan that is right is 1 1/2 inches above the PCI-Express slot and to the right there is a white fan. Lately I have been hearing a high pitched sound intermittently coming from it. I have tried tapping the fan and the sound goes away. Only to come back a few hours later. While this was happening I also noticed that the fan on my CPU was staggering in and out of power. Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

The northbridge fan isn't exactly the most reliable fan out there. you will want to replace it with the vc-re chipset fan from SVC. You can even find a few tutorials on this site on ho to do the replacement. Be sure to click through the SVC link on this site to make sure SVC knows where you came from.

The varying cpu fan speed is probably just the temperature monitoring system on the motherboard keeping the chip nice and cool.
