C2D or AM2? and a good LCD!

Well since I just got some decent cashflow from a new job it's that time to be doing an upgrade.

So I know c2d is way faster then am2, but I also know new am2 stuff will be out soon and the on die memory cont rules. I'm generally an ati graphics guy so c2d kinda seems like the better buy seeing how am2 crossfire boards are nonexistant. What would you guys get?

And I need a LCD, badly. My fairly nice 17" gateway monitor died about 2 years ago and I've been using a substandard hp monitor I got from someone cause they were going to throw it out. I'm looking at getting a 19-22" monitor. Tigerdirect currently has a 22" Acer with 5ms response for $299 but I've heard good and bad things about acer monitors. I know Samsung and dell are known for good monitors but a samsung is $370ish and a dell is like $600. So... Anyone have an Acer or seen one in person before?

If I were to build a computer today, there'd be no question in my mind. Core 2 Duo is king of the hill!

For the monitor, I LOVE my 20" Dell 2007FPWs. Even one would be big enough (the extra one was for my e-penis more than anything)

Here's a bad picture of them. They're so crisp in person and use the high-end S-IPS panel

Yeah, I was definately leaning twards c2d myself, not only is it at least the fastest for at least another couple months till amd get their new thing going on. But it'll be the only good crossfire boards till, I think I heard ati delayed the new chipset till Feb'07?

Just to make sure, is it a 2007FPW or WFP? Cause I only see the WFP on the Dell site, which means I'd have to look into differences. I just want a lot of monitor space, I'm generally a mmo junkie (just taking a break for a bit) and want the screen to fill my entire vision (Like what happens when I go and use my parrents 50" plasma as a monitor but without that price tag) And at $373 it's a bit more than I really wanted to spend, but I know I wouldn't be happy if I get one with an asstastic image.

yep just another vote for c2d... as for monitors... whatever you choose, take a widescreen. i moved from a 17" hp lcd to a 24" dell widescreen....and the difference is breathtaking.

the 2007 fpw from dell are a nice buy for the the price, but i would definitely reccomend the 2407fpw... i got mine for 700 shipped so not too shabbay.

They're the same monitor but Dell likes to change the F around (they did since the last time I looked at their site)

The reason it's so expensive is because of the S-IPS panel. It's used in $600+ NEC displays.

The 2407FPW was an option for me (cost the same as my two monitors) but the problems outweigh the advantages

Wangerin and H_G... Did I miss national speak like a pirate day again?!? Or you just doing that for no reason?

And $700 for a monitor is just out of my budget. Need that money for 2gb of DDR1000 and a x1900xt(x) or some graphics card that'll play games at a resolution higher than 1024x768.

So the wfp is a widescreen fpw? Anyone know the difference off hand? Cause I didn't find anything on the Dell site.

Hmmm... I suppose I might want to up my monitor budget so I can get a bigger screen / higher resolution. As long as the game isn't stuttering it's playable to me and the higher the resolution the better the picture gets.

So I take it as being Dell and Viewsonic montors are good. I'm pretty sure Samsung are known to be good as well? Any other quality brands anyone can reccomend? :)

And thanks for the help so far guys :D

Edit: UncleDavid that makes sence, I didn't even bother looking at the non widescreen ones, hehehe or I proally woulda saw that.
