robble Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I've bene runnning the rig in my sig very happily for the past few months. Last night I went to shutdown after it had been running a few hours (playing streaming music) and everything was unresponsive except the mouse. I had to hit the power button to shut it down. Now when I boot I get the lanparty splash screen where it sits forever. The LEDs go through the sequence and stop with 1 lit showing the MB should be entering bios (i think). It hangs before you get to the point where you can enter bios. I did some quick reseating of all the cards in my machine but no difference. Anyway, when I get home from work I am going to try the official reset CMOS. Have any suggestions before I reset CMOS? I did a search and although I found lots of no post threads none had this particular problem. Thanks!
tasr Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Try a CMOS clear like this. Leave the battery in.
robble Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Trying different search terms I found a few other threads where people had the same problem. Sadly, none of them reported if/how they got the problem fixed. I did get some ideas for things to try though.
robble Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 O I found when I disconnect my secondary Maxtor drive from SATA port 2 it will boot. Now for some more experimenting with different SATA ports for it. Ok, hooked my maxtor to SATA port 3 and the system booted. Windows XP ran checkdisk on my drive automatically (big scary dos sreen) then rebooted and seemed to come up ok. (I'm typing on the comp now). DFI peoples- Do you think the problem might be with my sata2 port? I had 3 and 4 open so it's not a big deal to move the cable. It's not worth my time to RMA over something like this either. I would like to know if I should be worried this drive is about to fail though.

yfital Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 it might acctualy be the maxtor's fault... it has some prob with nf4, you can contact maxtor for a firmware update for the HDD
Nisse977 Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 But my problem can´t be Maxtor.. I only have Seagate discs. All my 4 led´s are light up, and only fans are running. No beep, no boot.... nothing...

It's to hard to troubleshoot different rigs in the same thread

Anyway since things seem to be working now I'm going to leave it alone. I live with the cold boot problem - I can live with this too.
