Patrick413 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Got two problems: a) Im playing BF2 at 1920x1200 with a 7900gt(not updated in SIG). With everything on high its jumpy(especially the first few minutes) and according to the BF2 forums, I need 2GBs. B) My OCZ RAM is at 224MHz and Im OK with it. Id love to get 240 since my Venice 3500+ is underutilized. So.......... Should I sell my 2x512MB and get a 2x1GB kit? Ive search through Sharps sticky a bit but couldnt figure out which one. Or should I buy a 4x512MB kit(if there is one)? If anyone has been successful with a particular 2GB overclocker to 240MHz, Id love to here about it. thanks, Patrick
bodoke Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Better go for 2x1GB. 4x512 will force you to set 2T Command Rate wich, at the same speed, will bring your performance down. Take a look at OCDB and you'll find a lot of info about differents setups.
Guest GripS Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Buy a 2x1gb kit. Silky smooth with a 7600gt and 2 gigs of ram here.

ganders75 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I'd definately be looking at getting PC4000 (DDR500) memory, rather than the standard 3200 (DDR400)... Check my sig for details on setting up Mushkin XP4000 memory at different speeds. Very nice memory and some very nice O/C's out there using it... It's nice to get ram that already runs stock at 250FSB without having to try and OC it,if you plan on OCing I'm not sure how compatible that A-DATA is,you should make sure b4 you buy
Guest Retratserif Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 If you are not planning on OC'ing just get the 3200 kits from either G-Skill or OCZ. If you are goign to OC then get 4000 from the same. You cant go wrong. Make sure its DDR not DDR2 though. Pretty much what Playah said. I got the DDR500 (PC4000) so I could easily set my FSB to 250, though I still needed to set the Cas Lat to 3.4.3.8. before I installed the ram. I also installed one at a time and Mem tested them at 200, 225 and 250 each seperately. I had no issues. Then I ran both at the same time at 250, still no issues. I found my best performance with a stable setup was between 246-250, with my mem timings tighter than 255 max stable settings with loose timings. Though this is just me and my setup. BF2 runs alot better with 2 gigs, no matter what timings and settings you use, as long as its stable you will notice a difference in the first 90 secs of any map. More than likely you can get your Chip to 2.7-2.8 with time and testing. You just have to have the ram to do it.
Patrick413 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 OK, found one that fits the bill. I didnt realise that the PC500 came at 250Mhz standard! Im not the best overclocker with this board and it`ll be nice to strap it in and only have to worry about the processor. Costs about 272€ but if it means smooth BF2 and a jump in processor speed, why not:) OCZ DDR-RAM 2x1024MB PC500 CL3 DDR1 EB Platinum Enhancend Bandwith - Dual channel.
