carholmes Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 I think your choises are good, except for a few things: i don't think you need a hd cooler since hs's can handle higher temps, and IMHO I think the tuniq tower is overkill. I would be too afraid to put that behemouth on my cpu in fear that it would bend my board or chip or crack my cpu. I would recomend a Thermalright SI-128 with a good fan. red930 Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 The Sunbeam rheostat fan controllers are good. I've also owned 2 Vantec Nexus' controllers. I, personally, like the medium velocity panaflo's. If you can find them cheap, they're a good solution for a lot of airflow, while being able to keep them quiet with a fan controller. Rab Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 thks for the advice guys, the tower was an option, was hoping that a few had fitted it without any probs, will not bother with hd cooler as well now on the panaflo fans , heard there good, but have search many a uk stores websites, cnat find any that have them. will keep looking, case & chipsetfan come tomm also watch Ag vidoe of replacing it, looks like it aint that hard if u paying attention, is changing the cooler on the g card much the same ? again thsk
t_ski Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 If you are using ultra quiet fans, do you really need a fan controller? If you really do need one, there are lots of options available. I use a Zalman ZM-MFC1. It has 4 rheostats that supply 4-12v, plus two switches that allow Off, 5v, or 12v. I usually like to use the switches for lights, but I currently use one for my 3 Yate Loon fans to run them at 5v most of the time, and then crank them up to 12v when I game or bench. At 5v I can't hear them over the stock chipset cooler (running at low speed) or my Zalman VF900Cu. Other options are a baybus, switchbus or any other controller that uses rheostats and not PWM. Pulse Width Modulation controllers pulse the voltage, and I have seen lots of issues with different fans making a "clicking" sound while using one. The VF900Cu is probably the best air GPU cooler I've seen. It's fairly quiet even at full speed, but it comes with a fan controller of its own you can use to tweak it down a little if you need.
