help with raid 0

Recommended Posts

I have 2 questions for eveyone. But first for the set up. Im looking to upgrade my HD's from an IDE (single drive) to a raid 0 sataII.

First question... are there any known issues with any HD mfg I should know about before purchasing? I was thinking of going with Samsung.

Second question... Is it possible to xfer the OS and all info from my IDE drive to the new raid 0 array? I would like to just copy everything, to save myself the hassle of reinstalling windows, AGAIN. I would think it should be possible due to they are on different controlers, but ive never tryed it, so I could be wrong about that.

I have successfully transferred a full disk image from a RAID 0 array to a single backup drive and back to a RAID 0 array by using Acronis True Image Home vs. 9.0

Free to try for 30 days. In fact it works so well I went ahead and bought it.

The secret is to make sure your nVidia SATA and RAID drivers are already installed.

I wouldn't buy Samsung if I were you. I used to swear by Samsung and I still think they are good drives, but their customer support is virtually non-existent. I once needed to RMA a dead HDD directly to them (Newegg refused the RMA) and even after numerous e-mails to their tech support, I never heard a peep from them.

I switched to WD and never looked back...just my two cents.

I've never used Samsung, but I agree whole heartedly with Sharp, all HDD manufacturers are pretty well producing high quality hard drives these days.

The last four builds I've done though I've stuck with WD's. They are quite, reliable, can't speak to customer support since I've never had to use it :), an excellent website, and most importantly haven't received a defective drive in the last eight that I've installed.
