red930 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Can anyone help me out? It just is extremely slow and I don't know what to do. How long has it been like this? It's probably related to having only 512mb of ram while having a bunch of stuff loading in the background...

CYRiX Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 whoa i forgot to update my sig. I added a 1gb ram module. See it was working fine until one day i kept having hard drive problems. I kept trying to reinstall windows but it was really slow and hard to do. I then read a tip to disable udma, which then let it finish installing windows but now it stills sluggish (minute + to open aim/firefox, 30 secs + to open my computer, etc.)

Have you tried new cables for the hard drive ? And lastly, do you have another hard drive to try ?
CYRiX Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 I defraged it and checked it for errors, what other programs can I use? I have tried other cables and other hard drives, all give same results.

red930 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Have you tried just the single stick of 512 or 1GB stick by themselves?
CYRiX Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 i dont see how that would fix the problem because the two sticks have been working together for atleast 3/4 of a year.
red930 Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Your best bet is to use the Build Guide and start from scratch. http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6615
