Mindflux Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Prime Stable for 9hours at 2.6ghz and stock voltage. Turning a $250 cpu into a $750 cpu FTW. Thank you anyone who helped me with anything and to everyone who contributed to the OC guide.
SeanDude05 Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Congrats man! Whats the stepping?
Mindflux Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I actually don't know the stepping...my bro bought me and him identical rigs and put them together and forgot what the steppings were...they were "some good stepping" so I'm guessing 1610 or 0617 but I'll find out probably in a year when I decide I need more juice and get a new HSF. tasr Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Mindflux, Nice going dude. This is a great Opteron support thread. Socket 939 - Unofficial Opteron 939 Also did you load the Dual Core Optimizer? AMD Dual-Core Optimizer and AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP ver 1.3.
Mindflux Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 yes, I do have the optimizer on, though I didn't have any problems with anything beforehand (except 3dmark05 which it didn't fix)
WSDcomputer Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 what does the dual core optimizer do?
WSDcomputer Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 anyone? =o
centy Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 At a guess I'd say optimises dual core. From the AMD site - http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Techni...1_13118,00.html The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer can help improve some PC gaming video performance by compensating for those applications that bypass the Windows API for timing by directly using the RDTSC (Read Time Stamp Counter) instruction. Applications that rely on RDTSC do not benefit from the logic in the operating system to properly account for the affect of power management mechanisms on the rate at which a processor core's Time Stamp Counter (TSC) is incremented. The AMD Dual-Core Optimizer helps to correct the resulting video performance effects or other incorrect timing effects that these applications may experience on dual-core processor systems, by periodically adjusting the core time-stamp-counters, so that they are synchronized. boo_masters Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 what does the dual core optimizer do? It DRASTICALLY imporoved Oblivion for me as well as other intensive games. And congrats Mindflux. When you going to try for 2.8? (An overclocker's job is never done heh) boo
Mindflux Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I was trying for 2.7 but I get random reboots, I think it's the RAM. my ram memtests stable at 225mhz and it primed at 217 for 9hours and was set to like 208 or something but I have all the timings on "auto" and I think it's setting them different on the divider or something. In the very least I seemed to get 10-20 seconds into the desktop rather than 2 when I manually set it to 3-3-7-3. I guess it might also be the voltage, still at stock - might bump it up to 1.375 or 1.4 but going to wait 'til the fall for that when ambient temps aren't so high.
