Nitch Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I am currently attempting to install WinXP x64 on a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA HDD - I recently installed an Athlon X2 4800+, and my system no longer cares to boot. I have cleared BIOS and tried that, but every time the XP install gets to Setup Is Starting Windows - on the blue screen, it hangs and will not pass that point. I have not reflashed the Bios, and I seem to be unable to install any SATA/RAID drivers for this HDD. Any ideas? I am stuck and extremely frustrated, as this will not even allow me to boot into windows on the old IDE drive either.
centy Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Are you trying to run RAID?
eras0r Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Do you mean it hangs before it copies the files or after?

Nitch Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 #1, what is a shadow option #2, I am not trying to run RAID, and it hangs before it ever makes it to choosing a partition.

Ok, has the problem only started since installing the X2 4800 or the maxtor hard drive? Or did you add them both at once and then attempt a fresh install? I know there is a certain ammount of people experiencing difficulties with maxtor drives, they are advised to contact maxtor support for a firmware upgrade. Nitch Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 It happened before the Maxtor, because the same thing happens with my old IDE drives
SeanDude05 Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Well there IS a known incompatibility with Maxtor DiamondMax10s and the nF4 chipset. The only HDD/SATA drivers you need will be the ones Windows installs itself. Have you tried Loading Optimized Defaults?
Nitch Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I have loaded optimized defaults - every time I try to continue windows install i am getting a BSOD stating tech info: STOP: 0x0000007E (0XFFFFFFFFC0000005, etc etc)
Nitch Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 Turned out to be a HDD issue - I knew the DiamondMax series have had issues with nF4 chipsets but I finally managed to install to an IDE, update my RAID drivers and from there it allowed me to run the install on the SATA HDD.
