Athlon X2 4800+

Recommended Posts

I am currently attempting to install WinXP x64 on a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA HDD - I recently installed an Athlon X2 4800+, and my system no longer cares to boot. I have cleared BIOS and tried that, but every time the XP install gets to Setup Is Starting Windows - on the blue screen, it hangs and will not pass that point.

I have not reflashed the Bios, and I seem to be unable to install any SATA/RAID drivers for this HDD.

Any ideas? I am stuck and extremely frustrated, as this will not even allow me to boot into windows on the old IDE drive either.

#1, what is a shadow option

#2, I am not trying to run RAID, and it hangs before it ever makes it to choosing a partition.

Ok, has the problem only started since installing the X2 4800 or the maxtor hard drive?

Or did you add them both at once and then attempt a fresh install?

I know there is a certain ammount of people experiencing difficulties with maxtor drives, they are advised to contact maxtor support for a firmware upgrade.

Turned out to be a HDD issue - I knew the DiamondMax series have had issues with nF4 chipsets but I finally managed to install to an IDE, update my RAID drivers and from there it allowed me to run the install on the SATA HDD.
