Praetorian81 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Guys, My friend recently gave me a DFI SLI-DR Mobo. My question is, how do I determine if it's an Expert or Venus board?
watsonte Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 If he baught a SLI-DR....then its neither...if He baught an SLI-DR Expert..it will say on the board...if he baught and SLI-DR Venus it will say that.... The Venus series has different capacitors...Everest or CPU-Z will tell you what board it is...
Lane Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Ir you don't know where look .. its' easy.. the SLI-DR have the DDR slot's just upper the CPU and they are horizontal.. the Expert + Venus, have the DDR vertical left of the CPU.. When you power on your PC, the screenboot, will tell you the model.. The logo's are different and it's write Expert or Venus.. I think you have standard SLI-DR and not the expert or you have see this before..
Never_enough Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Besides the layout, and different "better" capacitors, what other difference is there?
Lane Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Some feature in bios.. for example you don't need the switch for use more 3.2V for the DDR, you can set directly the voltage -> 4.2V ( if you use BH5).. but there's not a lot of difference.. A huge difference come from compability with TCCD600 on the Expert board... it's impossible at 99% of case to use TCCD600 ( G-skill PC4800, OCZ PC4800, A-data 600mhz) But it seems the Venus have not this problem.. so it seems this 2 boards have some difference too... Anywa the SLI-DR ( standard) is close to the DFI NF4 SLI ultra.. More SATA slots.. But they have the stability and are both good and certainly the most liked for OC.. The boards act differently.. the Venus is a beast for OC the DDR.. really stable and permit some crazy thing... The Expert too but with some lower result and many incompability.. SeanDude05 Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Just like others have said, the Expert and Venus have a different layout than the SLI-DR. SLI-DR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136157 Expert: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136166 The Venus looks just like the Expert. Praetorian81 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I basically wanted to update the BIOS using Tmods boot CD, but in the CD he distinguishes between the two. I haven't booted the MOBO yet, that's why I don't know which one it is. I'm sure that the BIOS is dated though, and I will be popping in an AMD X2 4400+, so I know theirs gonna be some compatability issues if I dont flash it. Any opinions/ideas? watsonte Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Read the label on the PCI Express Slot....Are you still confused as to what board you have?
