Computer Needs time to warm up?

Recommended Posts

My DFI UT LanParty Expert motherboard has been great ever since I got it but I noticed when I first plug power into the box, I have to wait 10-20 seconds before I can push the power button. If I push power before that time, the motherboard and all the fans/components will light up for about a second as if it was starting, then shut off. If I do this perpetually it will start up on about the 3rd-4th time.

I've tried disconnecting some extra components like DVD/floppy to see if this might be an under-power issue with the PSU, but I don't think it is. It's literally feels like starting a car, you have to turn the key 3 times before it goes. Keep in mind this only happens if the machine is unplugged. Having been plugged in, I can shut the computer off and restart instantly.

Other than that the system is 100% stable with 0 problems. Anyone encounter this before?

Ummm, well I could try that I'd rather not waste the money. I'm running a 550W well under spec and since I'm not seeing any other problems, I'm not in agreement. Besides, that list was pretty generic listing dozens of companies as 'invalid'.

What I was more looking to find out if anyone has seen this behavior before? That pushing the power button causes the computer fans/lights to start for about a second but not fully start. Has anyone experienced this before?

my system also has a similar thing, but it's not a 10-20 sec thing. it's perhaps 3 secs. if i unplug th thing from the wall for a moment, and reconnect, i can't immediately fire it up. i press the power button but nothing happens, as if the thing was still unplugged. i i wait 2-3 secs after plugging it back, then it of course starts up just fine. weird really.

That sounds identical to what I have, about 3 seconds give or take. What power supply are you running since everyone was asking about my PSU?

isn't this because the board has a pretty high requirement for the 5v standby and some PSU's just cant put enough out for the standby voltage so it has some boot issues....but i wouldn't recommend that psu.. but as we all know money doesnt grow on trees meh...

I have a 520W power stream you could buy if you are interested.just PM me

I had that with an Aspire 420 watt with an different rig. Just before it kicked it.
OMG LOL I just bought an aspire x-qpack and the 420 watt psu is doing that to me too. I can't upgrade it right now, but thats going to be the first thing to go. Notee:Its not a dfi board in there.

Waste of money? It is THEEE most important item in your system TBH.

I would advice you to trust that list. It's based on pure experience and on real life testing; not on hearsay. I'm not an expert in this field, but I do appreciate the need for a good power supply, mainly because I've had an interest in stereo equipments for a long time and therefore I know for certain that a clean and stable stream of electricity do wonders. Whether components fed with the electricity work within a computer case or stereo equipment doesn't matter, the quality of electricity will still have a crucial impact.

The reference to the list wasn't made to make you feel bad, but out of concern. Search for the sticky here about Antec working hard to get a PSU fully compatible with DFI boards; Antec is a good brand and they realize that a good working PSU for these boards doesn't happen without some effort.

I can pretty much guarantee you that its your psu. My el-cheapo power supply in my Lan rig is like that. Its running the system fine ATM but i don't really trust it. I am mos def going to keep my eye on this thing.
