[RESOLVED]ANOTHER USER GOT A GOOD POWER SUPPLY>> cold boot probl

Recommended Posts

This is my first build

Running XP Pro

System worked fine for two weeks.

Optimised default settings loaded

Powering on and off with no problems.

One evening I selected hibernate, was unable to wake machine.

Used CMOS reset.System booted fine,I disabled the hibernate option in Windows.

Problem persisted. That is flashing standby light on mobo and DRAM light + LED

activity on RAM.Whenever power on is selected after power off.

I was concerned that HAL option on XP set up was incorrect.

So I re-installed, ensured ACPI multi processor option selected.

Problem still apparent. Have detached everything from motherboard and started from

scratch.Same things happen whenever I switch off either using power switch or turning

off from windows.

Whenever the system is up it works fine and soft boots succesfully.

So motherboard or PSU.?

With regard to BIOS upgrades do they need to be sequential?

I have just flashed to a phoenix award BIOS (before I discovered this site)

I will recover this to the original shipped BIOS tommorrow.

Since CMOS reloaded is now gone!

I cannot give my BIOS version at present.(Basics I know !)

The PSU, is the 2A setting for the 5VSB instead of the recomended 3A

perhaps the reason?

In which case why would it boot after a period of time?

All constructive comments appreciated :)

with thanks

Hi thanks for the links guys,

I am currently back up and running, yet undecided what to swop out.

I have discovered that if I select standby from XP the PC will go into standby and will then

re-boot when I press the power button.

AS before though If I switch it off using the power button, the second I press it again

the flashing standby light on the motherboard comes on along with the DRAM flashing light

plus the activity on the Corsair Ram leds. This is when if I unplug and leave for a while(few hours to overnight) it will then boot up.

I have an ANTEC180 case could it be anything to do with the switch itself? Or the connections on the motherboard.

Classic Seasonic PSU startup issue. It is in no way related to the motherboard or system.

A new PSU from the recommended list like the OCZ will get you running again.
