why are the Computer prices going down..

I rember that amd cpus would cost 300 now its only 150-200

same and graphics card etc etc etc they went down soo soo fast

and now iono when is the right time to shop for some

Intel's new core coming out (Conroe) dropped CPU prices like nuts, AMD cut theirs almost in half overall to stay competitive.

Why are they going down? Competition. Since Conroe came out AMD needs to lower prices to stay competitive. Same all across the board. When technology ages, prices go down, not up. If you want a AMD processor, now is fine to buy since there are no price drops for some time.

When a new generation replaces (CPU's) or is about to replace (GPU's) the prices of the old models goes down.

New Platforms means lots of consumers upgrading, and of course upgrading from all ends of the spectrum....939 is "old" AM2 is New....Plus with Conroe out now and "Benching better" than AMD, a little competition has been thrown into the mix...any more a motherboard and PSU might cost you more than a CPU, hell even Ram is more expensive than some processors....

 

Competition is a great thing...

Don't forget products get cheaper as supply goes up. Supply is fed by demand, more and more people are buying Whitebox PCs or building their own machines. The more units a company sells, the cheaper the price can go without having negative impact on revenue.

The announced price cuts affected most of AMD’s product lineup except soon-to-be discontinued products such as the Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 4400+ and 4000+ for Socket AM2 and Socket 939. Since AMD never announced price cuts for Athlon 64 X2 4800+, 4400+ and 4000+ products, retailers were stuck with the original pricing.

 

Nevertheless a new distributor price sheet reveals new distributor pricing for the remaining 2x1MB Athlon 64 X2 processors. Between July 24th, 2006 and August 27th, 2006 distributors are expected to drop prices on Athlon 64 X2 4800+ and 4400+ Socket AM2 and 939 products to $266 and $224 respectively. Athlon 64 X2 models 4000+ will drop to $173 in the same time frame.

 

The price cuts will be the last for the respective models as AMD has already sent out an end-of-life regarding Athlon 64 X2 models 4800+, 4400+ and 4000+."

I think that plays a part. A good example is the 7800gt and a 7900gt. 7800gt's are still around (if not higher) than 7900gt's
