Problem with Evercool VC-RF and DFI SLI-DR

OK ... BIG PROBLEM here. After getting all my parts today I decided to fix my DFI Lanparty SLI-DR chipset fan. And replace it with the Evercool VC-RF which was recommended to me on Sharkyforums.com

I removed the old DFI-Lanparty chipset fan (unfortunately I ended up having to break the stock fan to get it off).

I applied artic silver to both the chipset and on my CPU. Then I got the Evercool VC-RF all ready to put on my chipset. And low and behold.... it sure doesn't look like it's even going to come close to fitting.

So what happened? Did someone link me the wrong product? Or is it possible for me to insert the Evercool VC-RF onto the SLI-DR? I don't want to force it but it just doesn't look like it will fit at all.

Do I have to go and buy the VC-RE instead?

ALSO ... I can't put my computer back together until I get this right fan (especially since the previous one was broken).

So I have two questions.

1) Does any store sell the Evercool VC-RF? If anyone knows of any stores that sell these (where I could go and pick it up same day that'd be VERY helpful).

2) Since I can't put the computer back together yet .... The artic silver is just sitting there ..... is this going to cause any problems? If I have to leave the computer out for like a week or so .....

What can I do to keep it safe?

Please help me!

So it looks like I was linked to the wrong product. That really sucks for me.

How much modding are we talking about?

Because I can take apart a PC and put one together. But I don't have any experience modding pieces of hardware to have it fit. What would I have to do?

Would I be better off just buying the VC-RE for around $12 - $15 (including shipping).

ALSO, what about leaving my motherboard out and having the artic silver and chipset exposed?

Anything that I should do to prevent any major problems or damage?

Another question .... I accidently got some Artic Silver 5 on the green part of the Motherboard chipset. I tried to get it off with alcohol but it doesn't seem like I got all of it off. Could this cause a serious problem?

Also is it ok to just leave the artic silver there on the cipset ... will it harden if I leave it out ... right now it's sorta in a pile in the center. Should I make sure to smear it around. Or just leave it as is?

Acetone will get it off. Either file the holes in the VC-RF to fit or just get a VC-RE. Might as well get some arctic ceramique while your at it. That way if you make the mistake you made with the AS5 no harm will be done. Sorry you ended up with the wrong product. It seems many have the impression that they are the same when they are very much different in the way they mount.

Thanks for the tips. I managed to get pretty much all the Artic Silver 5 off. I just decided to order the VC-RE and some Artic Ceramique.

Yeah I'm definitely dissappointed that someone linked me to the wrong product. It's definitely a waste of my time and money. But then again, I guess if I would have double checked things and been more observant, I would have realized that.

After ordering the VC-RF, I realized the video was installing a VC-RE. But I was really hoping they would both fit and the VC-RF would work for me since it was recommended to me.

After cleaning up the excess AS5, is it ok if I leave the rest of it on there and just wait a few days until the new VC-RE arrives and install it then (probably Thursday or Friday).

Yeah I hope that my problem will at least notify many others that the VC-RF doesn't really fit with SLI-DR boards. So nobody makes the same mistake that I did.

Since you already have some ceramique coming just clean off the AS5 off the chipset. I wouldn't use it. With the AS5 exposed to dust that's in the air that long wouldn't be a good idea to use it as is.
