Sefiruz Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Hello. I have tried to overclock my X1800XL for quite some time now, tried to increase core voltage to 1.200 volts etc. Im using Atitool Beta 14 and catalyst drivers 6.7 (tried diffrent versions) and it is always showing artifacts on any clock speed (Even at stock speeds). But it dosent come any error in the atitool utility when the artifacts shows, And when i get to like clockspeed 560 on the core the artifacts is all over the 3d screen and the whole system hangs. And i cant even increase the memory one bit without hanging, Im using watercooling on a low temp, 31-45celsius. I have tried to use the drivercleaning utility, with no use. And when i press the "Mem" on Atitool beta 14 it says: "Changing memory timings is not supported on this chipset". Has this something to do with my motherboard northbridge or something? Or does it mean videocard chipset?, Even tried to flash the graphic bios with no help. Does anyone knows what's going on here? Thanks for any replies. //Sefiruz
red930 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 One thing that i'm not clear is how is your PSU putting up with these overclocking? Do you have a multimeter handy to check your rails @ IDLE or LOAD? You should really look into this and post results. Also, have you tried reading some reviews/articles on the net about this? http://www.legitreviews.com/article/276/1/ http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/overcl...800XL/index.htm
Sefiruz Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Nope i havent got an psu multimeter =/, But all the rail u can see in bios looks totally safe. yeah i have read those reviews, They are using a utility called overclocker, When i try to use it and tries to set clock to like 550.00 etc, it gets lowered to like 430.00 or something, lol. Lower than the default clock and i have no idea why its doing that. Really weird. Do you think this can have something with my psu to do? well i havent given any results so it can be hard to guess. I also discovered one thing with this old pc screen im having, a pin on the videocard connector is broke. but i don't see that causing the overclocking problems. Sefiruz Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 I have a picture taken from atitool when artifacts scanning. I dident find a proper upload page so i used this: EDIT: Bad link. This isnt right is it? EDIT: But its kinda irritating, i thought the artifacts was produced by heat so i changed to watercooling and blew my RMA support, and the artifacts are still there, so i guess im stuck with the problem...
