Homer Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Hello, I have been experiencing odd locking up and restarting problems with my machine. I did a fresh format and windows install, and still no luck. The computer locks up randomly, and often if I alt tab out of a game the entire screen becomes corrupted with artifacts and such, so I cannot see anything. I installed new graphics drivers as well. I cant seem to find the exact problem. I've run several tests (prime 95, S&M, SP2000, memtest, etc) and I cannot pinpoint the exact problem. I just get errors that say "possible hardware failure detected." I'm not sure what to do, because I cannot narrow down the problem component. A friend of mine said his pc was doing the same thing, and he RMA'd his DFI board, and it works fine now. Any advice on what to do? Thanks alot. Sharp Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 Hello, What did memtest come up with? Have you tried 1 gfx card at a time? How are the temps, CPU, chipset, PWM and GFX cards?
Homer Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 PWM and Chipset seem to be running pretty hot (get up to 65*C). Memtest came up with no problems at all.
Homer Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 any ideas?
Homer Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Sorry for the repeat posts, but I'd really like to find out what to do.
davidk21770 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Is CPU staying cool? 65C is reportedly ok, but I've read some posts of problems just a little above that for PWM. I prefer to keep mine down below 45C with a fan. You could also try swapping-out the stock chipset heatsink for an Evercool VC-RE (see here http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=52950). Homer Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Well, the motherboard temps are pretty high, but I dont think thats the cause. Maybe thats a sign that the boards failing or already has?
