WoKeN Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 hey, i wasn't entirely too sure if askinga bout the intergrated soundcard of the SLI-DR DF4 soundcard belonged here or not.. If I am posting in the wrong location, i'm sorry and please go ahead with removing or relocating my thread, i don't mean to cause any stress or more work for any of the admins. well the reason why i seek some rational (and please no fanboyism) opinions on the intergrated sound card is because just very recently, my Audigy 2 soundcard installation driver CD has seem to have gone missing. I tore my whole apartment inside out and then again. Could anyone advise me if the df4 onboard sound card is that of or better quality than a regular SB Audigy 2? It's not a ZS just regular, but i find very little difference between ZS or regular because i've had the ZS and compared the 2, but found that having 2 because of the somewhat same quality, i returned my audigy 2 zs to newegg. Well i'm just babbling it seems, so i'll just get back to my main question, is the df4 onboard sound card good, if so would you say it exceeds the Audigy 2 ZS or even regular 2 in quality? Is so... Then why? Any help much appreciated.
silencer51 Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 No, I don't think it's better than an Audigy, however it gets the job done. If you are into high fidelity audio, editing/recording etc. then it's not for your, but for home use it's fine (methinks).
unleashed Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 The Audigy will provide much better sound. You can hop on creative's website and download any necassary drivers and apps.
Oats Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I didn't think the difference from the onboard and an Audigy 2 ZS was worth it. I ended up selling the Audigy after a few months of use. I couldn't stand the way it sounded with CMSS on, and once disabled it sounded just like the onboard sound. It is the worse thing I have bought for my computer in MY OPINION. Sound is all about the person listenting. Nobody can tell you what will sound better to you. If I were you I would install the onboard and then install the Audigy to compare. Guest nibs Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 Since I currently pipe my sound through speakers that came with a Pentium 75Mhz computer from Gateway years ago I've been using the onboard soundcard. I like it. If I ever upgrade to better speakers I'll probably get something else.
Guest area51 Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 @ WoKen Here you go: http://www.dfi-street.com/forum/showthread.php?t=61920 Just download the cds that came with your audigy 2 zs and burn them...or as another poster above said go to creatives site and dl them. The difference between onboard sound and an Audigy 2 ZS is huge to me...especially in gaming...
faheyd Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I'm not a fanboy of Creative anythings. That being said, tests have shown that if you are a hard core gamer, you can gain a few FPS's using an add-on sound card like Creative or Auzentech Pro. I personally would never have a creative card in any of my computers, but I put an Audigy 4 in my son's computer because he is a hard core CS:S player in a league. I also put a Audigy 2 Pro into my brother's computer because he had nothing but a plain jane terrible sound chip in his board (very old). On my shopping list is the AuzenTech BGI-HDAXP-D HDA X-PLOSION 7.1 DTS Connect Retail , (on sale now for 80 bucks after rebate) http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetai...st=pricegrabber . As soon as my new roof is put on in Sept, I might get that for myself for Christmas. But for me, I play BF2 and some CS:S, and I'm not going to go out and spend over 100 bucks for a soundcard. I am a geek, hooked on computers and I have a great 5.1 sound system, still, the soundcard is at the bottom of the shopping list as far as parts go. I would suggest to anyone the same. Sit, wait for an exceptional deal or find the soundcard that really meets specs, and then buy it. Curtybob Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I can't compare it to an Audigy 2 or ZS, but I can tell you what I think of it. At low to medium sound levels, and with the EQ flat, it doesn't do too badly. When you start straying from flat on the EQ, it distorts easily. It seems to do a decent job with the surround seperation on DVD's, but the center channel doesn't seem loud enough. Easy fix, just go to the sound panel, leave the center an sub all the way up, and turn everything else down to about 2/3. Overall, it's a decent sound processor. I'd say it's worth playing with for a few days to see if it suits you.
