Phire Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I pulled my computer apart yesterday. I did the same as i have many times before. I then put it back together with graphics in pci-e 1 and won't display graphics. Put it into second x16 size slot and it works. I also was getting a beeping when it was in first slot. Not post beep but error beep. Any ideas?
ganders75 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Did you try reseating it again in the first slot to be sure it was seated correctly? Did you try a bit of compressed air to clean out the first slot? Did you drain the caps fully before you touched the board? On another note: it will run just as fast in the second slot if you switch the jumpers to SLI mode (ie. at 8x which is still more bandwidth than the card can use)... So not a total disaster... Phire Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 I have tried reseating it yes. Tried cleaning out the slot also. Have also switched sli jumpers and slot still doesn't work. Drain caps fully? I realise that i could use the other slot but i prefer to have fully functional board. Think i'll try and get it rma'd. Only 2 months old. ganders75 Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Draining the caps just involves turning your PSU off at the back, and then pushing the case on/off switch a few times to clear all the remaining power from the board (i'm a little anal so i usually push it like 20+ times ;o)... If you don't do this, there is still some power left in the caps which can cause a short when you touch anything... Couldn't really say this is your problem of course, just a thought that occurred to me when i saw your post...
Phire Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 Well no i didn't do that. I never have done in my time building pc's though and haven't had a problem. I guess there always is the chance but i wouldn't think that was the problem. I'll start trying to organise an rma tomorrow i guess  . At least now that i've worked out issues with my dfi rs-482 i'll still have a pc while board is away
Phire Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 I've sent my board in for RMA. They returned my box to me though and just kept board so i'm a little worried. I'll see how it goes though.
