When this was put together back in Jan it was unstable for 5 months.. finally came here got the right advice, running complete stock settings for now.. So I was just gona go with a single core since I dont multi task by know means, even though I see the 3800x 2 has dropped and may be a better buy was ancy about the install.. Thanks good advice as usual...

The majority of users have no problems with dual core processors. They are basically plug and play. A major issue seems to be using non oem/retail installs of XP.

I'd have to say if your looking to OC, for under $100 the 3700 is a great buy if you get the right one, BNBOX if I remember right is the better one (whichever doesen't have the disabled Toledo Core). Right now I'm running 2.97 GHz @1.53 volts. I think I can get it up to 3.0, not bad for a $100 chip even if it is single core. Again, it depends on your stepping....

Hmm if your going with a chip now id say go 3800 x2. I mean like $49 bucks more and it beats my 3700 @3003mhz while it's only at 2.5ghz. Not to mention 3700 had my sweet mushkins at DDR500 2-3-8-3 and the 3800 has some crappy ocz el platz a hair above stock at DDR416. So If I got my old ram back or when ever I get some HZ I could probably do close to 3ghz with the memory pretty high and spank the 3700. But the 3700 is still a great chip.

KACAE 0604MPMW

2805MHz (255x11) @ 1.300v - 3.07% below stock

2850MHz (259x11) @ 1.325v - 1.13% below stock

2871MHz (261x11) @ 1.340v - stock voltage

2981MHz (271x11) @ 1.425v - 6.34% above stock

3003MHz (273x11) @ 1.440v - 7.46% above stock

3113MHz (283x11) @ 1.500v - 11.9% above stock

3201MHz (291x11) @ 1.570v - 17.1% above stock

Above results under air cooling with lapped Arctic Cooling Freezer 64. All are 12+ hours Prime95 stable! Better results are likely possible with better cooling, however this was meant to be my 'work' PC, and as such - quiet! Check sig for current settings, 3.2GHz screenie and CPU-z.

1M SuperPI 1.4Mod in 28.141s

Cheers!

Thanks for all your help. I'll definetly look around for a KACAE and stay away from the cf 3700.

Hi my KACAE wont go any higher than 2.8 stable even with 1.6volts it still wont break 2.9 prime stable for more than 3 hours iv tried all sorts of timings but found the ram more than happy to run at 275. cpu temp @ full load doesnt go over 50c on water and naked im saying this just so you bear in mind it is still luck of the draw and nothing is for sure
