MrBurns Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 (edited) First I have to say that I am from Austria (Europe), and so my English maybe isnt perfect. I am interested, w/ which of the following 3 cooling methods I will get the best overclock on my GeForce 4 Ti 4600 w/o having graphical artifacts. The methods I though about are using a CPU-cooler or a Zalman Heatpipe w/ the OP1 fan or w/ a convenmzional cooling. I couldnt overclock at all yet, because my GPU-coller is very week and I dont have any RAM coolers. I dont care about noise (I have a Volcano 7+ for CPU cooling). I also dont care if I loose one or two PCI slots. One thing doesnt depend on what cooling I will use: I will use RAM coolers. If I will use the Zalman Heatpipe, they have enough space under the cooler. Do you think, I should use a Zalman Heatpipe ZM80C-HP VGA-Cooler + Fan ZM-OP1 (mounted directly on the cooler) or a conventional cooling soltion? What do you think cools the GPU and RAM better? I have already posted a thread about this cooling method, but not about the CPU-cooler method. Another possibility would be to mount a CPU cooler. Someone in a different forum gave me that tip. He also posted, that everything which weights less than 300g is isnt dangerous, but someone else meant, that even 238g is too much an another guy suggested, that I should use a 385g cooler (the AeroCool Phantom). The best CPU coolers under 300g I found are the TaiSol CGK760172 and the Titan TTC-D5TB(TC). Both weight about 260g (260g/264g). The lightest cooler I found is the rackmount cooler Spire 5R057B3 RackSper II (copper), which has a weight of 181g. There is also an aluminium version available (Spire 5R231B1M3 RackSper I), but I dont know the weight of the aluminium version. If someone has the opinion, that 300g or/and the coolers I suggested are too havvy, please post. Also post, if you found a cooler, that is better (in your opinion) than the ones I suggested. The third possibility would be a conventional cooler, i.e. the ThermalTake GeForce4 Copper Chipset-Cooler set. Shabadu Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 I would go with the thermaltake conventional cooling, but that zalman heat pipe looks pretty cool. i used to have a ti4400, and the stock fan worked fine for my needs, but if you want better cooling i would go with conventional cooling. IUMaestro Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 Mr Burns - your English is ALOT better then most people who write here actually : ) For cooling I would go with ThermalTake. If you have alot of money you can go with the Zalman method, but from what I've heard it doesnt do a whole lot more than a very good small cooler. And it takes up alot of space, causes problems with RAM on alot of motherboards too! What I'm using for my Radeon 9600 Pro is this ThermalTake Crystal Orb which works great. http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/chipset/a1178.htm That will work for your card as well and it's very cheap. All in all it's up to you to decide what's best of course, but I would definately suggest ThermalTake cooler. and of course MemSinks too, either that come with the "GeForce 4 A1349 copper cooling set" or that you can buy very cheap somehwere else online. Hope to help. - Matt
kobalt Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 (edited) I basically put an old p2 50mm alu cooler& fan on my ATI and some alu PSU heat sinks it looks cheap but it really works. the fan is plugged in the sys fan of the mobo and mbm is giving me the RPM's which cannot be done with regular VC hs and fan, the PSU HS works as good as OCZ mini flowers(which is what i had on almost all of the ram chips) And the little ones around the HS are cooled by the side pannel fan right in front of them So my point is , if you're going for big HS keep it ALU. for the weight Edited October 24, 2003 by kobalt

Iggy Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 (edited) I would go for the Thermaltake Geforce4 cooling set, or the Zalman heatpipe. However, if noise is not an issue, don't use the ZM-OP1 with the cooler. Use Zalman's FB123 fan bracket and a 120mm fan, along with the 20x12.6x8mm ram coolers. And by the way, your english is very good, I've seen alot worse from people who speak english as a first language. gods_poptart Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 i've got a ti4600 (gainward) and i just have 5 fans (well its kinda like 4 fans cause one only gets about 900rpms) and i can touch any part of my video card and pull my hand out will all my fingers intact
MrBurns Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 (edited) I have already posted a thread about using a Zalman Heatpipe on my GPU, but I didnt post about the CPU-coolers there. If you read it, you can read, that I also have 5 case-fans (excluding PSU-fan): http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.p...=ST&f=1&t=12912 Update ( Oct 25 2003, 10:30 AM): @Iggy: I have found two 120mm fans, that are interesting: One is a low price model which has a quite good performance and the other one is the absolute high end, My question: does it make a difference, if I take the high end? The first one is the SmartCooler LFM1512M 120x120x25mm, which has 1500rpm and 105 h Edited October 28, 2003 by MrBurns
