mrbadnback Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I want to water cool my LP nf4 SLI-DR when I get it and put the system together. I want to use water cooling to keep the temps down and I know that air won't be able to cool it enough especially if I push the CPU to it's limits. I was just wondering what would be the best to get? Would a kit work as good as just buying the components and putting together my own system? I just need opinions on the best CPU water block, VGAChipset block, pump, radiator, reservoir and tubing. I want to get the right components now because I don't want to keep taking the system apart to upgrade the parts just because I didn't ask. So if I ask now I should be able to get the right parts the first time.
ollietwinam Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 Lots of people don't use reservoirs, they use fillports.. not sure why though, but that should save you some money if you don't mind modding your case a bit. DangerDen is the best for W/C i believe, they sell kits that you can modify to your needs, check it out.
Sorrento Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 I think modding the case to accomodate the fill port isn't necesary, a lot of people just leave it around inside the case in a secure place
lowboy Posted August 2, 2006 Posted August 2, 2006 You can tell from my sig what I think is best.
michaelzhao Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 CPU: Storm, GPU: MAZE-4, Pump: D5, Radiator: Coolingworks CoolRad 22-T, Res: None, use a t-line, Tubing: 7/16''
Evil_inc Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I would use 1/2" inner diamieter compatible tubing/pump/res/blocks. Push a lot through.
greatscott68 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Cool your chipset with an Evercool VC-RE. You'll get a fantastic temp putting that chipset on water, but it will be a very tight squeeze for the 1/2" tubing, and the heat dump in your loop is definitely not worth it. Good luck
michaelzhao Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 True that. It's really superfluous to cool your chipset. There really isn't a reason too. Thats not as useless as MOSFET water cooling though. People who do that are just retarded or have money to blow or both. I still stick with 7/16'' tubing though. Doesn't kink. Only slightly smaller the 1/2''. Very tight fitting. Slightly faster flow rate with almost the same amount of water. EDIT: To be clear, 7/16''ID tubing on 1/2''OD barbs. I don't want you looking for 7/16'' OD barbs because they don't exist. kiikkuja Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Maybe i'm superfluous and stupid...just installed my chipset block and GPU block and now my rig is sooooooooooooooooo quiet. Now i can hear my hdd's ticking...i know it's not necessary to cool the chipset with water but it's so darn quiet without stock fan. michaelzhao Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Lol... a 8 buck Evercool VC-RE is absolutely dead silent. Doesn't dump wattage into my loop and also doesn't add another obstacle to my loop.
Guest Retratserif Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I like Asetek, its slightly under Danger Den in performance, but alot cheaper. Kit-Tronics.com has the best deals.
watsonte Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 A kit will not do the trick....Buy separate parts, CPU: TDX Water block, GPU: Maze4 and Ramsinks Radiator: Black Ice 240 Stealth GTS Pump: Laing D5 Tubing: Tygon, I prefer 1/2" Water Additive: Zerex and Distilled Water, or Fluid XP, I like Fluid XP its pricey, but it works very well, switching from MCT-40 my temps dropped 4C, just changing fluids. Fillport: Cheap and reliable, you can secure the fillport where ever using zip ties if you like. Check out the forum over at DangerDen.com Also thats where my list of components comes from.
